Here's my second caveat: I'm here as a Catholic Christian and an American citizen - in that order. Both of these identities are important. They don't need to conflict. They are not, however, the same thing. And they do not have the same weight. I love my country. I revere the genius of its founding documents and its public institutions. But no nation, not even the one I love, has a right to my allegiance, or my silence, in matters that belong to God or that undermine the dignity of the human persons He created.
My third caveat is this: Catholics and Protestants have different memories of American history. The historian Paul Johnson once wrote that America was "born Protestant" (1). That's clearly true. Whatever America is today or may become tomorrow, its origin was deeply shaped by a Protestant Christian spirit, and the fruit of that spirit has been, on the balance, a great blessing for humanity. But it's also true that, while Catholics have always thrived in the United States, they lived through two centuries of discrimination, religious bigotry and occasional violence. Protestants of course will remember things quite differently. They will remember Catholic persecution of dissenters in Europe, the entanglements of the Roman Church and state power, and papal suspicion of democracy and religious liberty.
We can't erase those memories. And we cannot - nor should we try to - paper over the issues that still divide us as believers in terms of doctrine, authority and our understandings of the Church. Ecumenism based on good manners instead of truth is empty. It's also a form of lying. If we share a love of Jesus Christ and a familial bond in baptism and God's Word, then on a fundamental level, we're brothers and sisters. We also urgently owe each other solidarity and support in dealing with a culture that increasingly derides religious faith in general, and the Christian faith in particular. I write my recipes for certain cooking dishes (with a little added magic), aromatherapy sprays and oils, natural remedies that have been passed down or ones I have found that work myself. The list goes on. You could even call it an eclectic book of variety.A book of shadows is simple to start. Purchase a large blank, hard bound book from any book store or support handmade and buy a handmade blank book. You'll want to start off by placing a small bit about yourself in the beginning of the book. Why are you creating this book and what are the purposes you plan to use it with or for. I highly recommend dedicating the book to someone like your daughter, niece or anyone you know that would benefit and enjoy the book once your earth life has passed.There is no special or certain way you should organize your book. It's yours after all! There is no particular organization required, use your instinct to write where you desire in your book. I do however suggest you divide the book into sections. This will give you certain areas to open in the book and a general idea of where your spell or ritual is placed.I have several 'chapters' in my book of shadows. The first chapter or section I created was for Natural Remedies. In this section you'll find recipes for homemade chest rubs when someone has a cold or cough, anointment oils and blends for raising consciousness, heightening my husbands sexual desires (not that they need heightened anymore) and curing common ailments. Anything from homemade herbal teas that ease ones stomach troubles to first aid salve and so on.Another chapter or section I have in my personal book of shadows is actual food recipes. My favorite meditations are those based around important lunar and celestial events.We can't forget about a chapter for rituals. I suggest placing or creating some sort of celestial/universal calender in your book. This will help you keep track of an upcoming date that is important to your spell/magic/light work. I've been doing Samhain rituals at my home for the past several years. Each year something new is added to the sacred sabot ritual. From circle casting, leaf tossing, salt throwing and laying to fire raising and everything in between, this is the section.I also have a section where I have written my own personal blessings for different times of the year. There is a blessing/chant/prayer for almost every earth based holiday. You can use one that has already been created and simply tweak it or create one entirely from your own point of view. I have hundreds of blessings I have written for nearly every aspect. Even down to picking a flower from a plant to placing the water in my coffee pot each morning.There is another section that helps me keep track of when and what stone I charged and how. This is handy when you need to do some quick magic work. You'll have a record of what stones were charged, how and by what element they were charged in and so on.I have many more sections and chapters that pertain to my lifestyle and reflect on the way I do my light work. Everyone is different and individual thus this is they way your book of shadows should be. Your book should be unique and special just like you.Some may feel inclined to adorn their book with charms, paintings, drawings and other stuff on the cover. Make it yours, use your imagination and get creative. I have even used the inside to draw out certain images that have come in dream form. Nothing wrong with a chapter just for notes and doodling or passing thoughts.Have fun with this project during the upcoming winter months. It will give you something to do on the cold winter days that will be here before we know it.Feel free to share a spell or page out of your book of shadows. Case in point, the details surrounding the 24th season of the hit TV Reality Show Survivor set to premiere on February 15th, 2012.
Let's just say it fits with all the other themes we've been exploring lately (and expecting for 2012).
'Survivor: One World': New Cast And New Twists Revealed!
Survivor: One World is the twenty-fourth season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor, which will premiere on February 15, 2012. Unlike previous seasons where tribes lived at separate camp sites, the two tribes will be living at the same camp together. While the concept of two tribes living at the same camp also appeared in Survivor: Thailand, Survivor: Palau, and Survivor: Fiji, this is the first time it was employed at the beginning of the game for an indefinite amount of time. The two tribes will also be divided into men and women, which was previously done in Survivor: The Amazon and Survivor: Vanuatu.
As for the contestants, early attention will surely be on Leif Manson, Survivor's first little person. "It's great because he's a fan of the show," says Probst. "He wants to be out there and he's well aware that this is a show in which any difference can get you voted out, and he comes with a very clear physical difference - he's half the size of anybody else." Of course, no Survivor is complete without a villain, and Probst says this season's baddie comes in the form of gay Republican Colton Cumbie. "He doesn't know it, but he is a full-on villain. He thinks he's the most charming guy ever. He's a devil and I don't even think he's disguised."
Seriously? Seriously.
Given the Antichrist themes we've been studying a lot lately, how incredibly bizarre is it that one of American Pop Culture's most popular TV shows is not only named 'One World' for the first time ever, but it also will feature the first 'little person' contestant ever?
I mean, how can that not evoke specific Scriptural thoughts and get us to recall some key prophetic verses about the end times?

My gosh! Even Probst's reference to the devil fits too nicely here. Just unreal, isn't it?
Needless to say, the spiritual war that's raging all around us continues to bleed through and into the real world showing up in places like this popular program. However, the blood of Jesus has already won the war for us.
Still, all of the info presented here today has me wondering about Satan's goal, which could be to continue to influence and use Hollywood and Pop Culture (just like he always has) to subconsciously suggest that we Christians have something to fear about the coming future with the implied question inherent in this season being: Who will 'survive' the coming 'One World' government and political system controlled by the Antichrist?
Like I said, we have nothing to fear because the war has already been one.

The Hopi elders say: if you are not connected to the earth, in alignment with its generous grace and spirit, you will not make it to the other side of the coming changes. To feel connected to the earth, they say, learn to plant something. Learn to tend something. Give the earth your offerings and your gratitude and your gifts.
Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hahn says: "Kiss the earth with your feet. Give the earth your love and happiness. The earth will be safe when we feel safe in ourselves."
The message is this: If we begin to assume an active role in the creation of a new world, if we dare to believe we can, our dreams will spawn a better creation to leave our children. To leave our trees, and oceans, our mountains, and our animal friends. And in return, the quiet generosity and responsiveness of nature will give birth to our own peace, wisdom and abundance-if we only just let it.

Our Order and most other G.D. Orders that I am familiar with have always maintained that working to improve the self iMPROVES THE WORLD, and working to improve our world IMPROVES THE SELF. It is a simple belief that finds root in various mystery schools and in a variety of modern day mystics, which include, McGregor Mathers who drove an ambulance during WWI. He was concerned about the wounded, that they were not getting the care they deserved. He gave of his time and his magic. WORD HAS IT THAT HE WAS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HEALING THE WOUNDED.
Then there is the Dali Lama who while exiled from his own land, and having seen persecution and murder against his people continues to spread peace and light throughout the world. HE HAS NEVER UTTERED A NEGATIVE STATEMENT AGAINST ANYONE.
Who could forget the spiritual power of Nelson Mandela,who after being a prisoner for 27 years for his beliefs in human rights never wanted revenge when he was freed, rather he called for peace. This man while not a Golden Dawn practioner could teach us all about humility and Light.
The world was so blessed to have a Mother Theresa who devoted her life to the poor and the dying. I having seen her home, and having helped in her facilities in Calcutta India, can testify that she certainly was connected to the spiritual juice of our planet.
NOW WE HAVE A CRISIS IN HAITI. Most of us cannot get on a plane and go over there and volunteer our hearts and our bodies. What we as the Golden Dawn community can do is begin invoking the Magic of Light to bring comfort, stability to the earth so as not to have more after shocks and quakes, stability to the government so as to not have up risings. WE CAN INVOKE FORCES OF LIGHT TO BRING ABOUT ACTION FASTER FROM WORLD GOVERNMENTS AND ALL THOSE WILLING TO GIVE AID.
Whatever your magical level, work within it, and give some of your time to Haiti this week. THE MAGIC OF LIGHT IS ALWAYS MORE POWERFUL WHEN IT IS GIVEN FREELY AND WITH UNIVERSAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

Okay- well, i have thought about it, and i have been sort of lax lately on keeping up with some of the regular things that i used to do. So, i will be doing weekly readings for myself as practice and will keep updates as to whether or not they are accurate or even relevant. I will also do readings for others, if they would like, though i would need a picture of you, i think, for a long distance reading. (i've never done them before but would like to give it a try.)
1. 4 of Rods- well established home and financial life. A satisfying partnership. Harmony and Romance.
2. King of Rods- A fair blue eyed man, a father figure, a married man with family, one who is wise educated and intelligent. mature and noble.
3. Ace of Swords- The start of a struggle in aid of a good cause, Power, Success, Prosperity, Fertility.
4. 5 of Cauldrons- Preoccupation with misfortune and regret. Disappointment. No true love in marriage. Imperfection.
5. Ace of Pentacles- Spiritual blessings bestowed in the material world. Riches. Attainment. Ecstasy. Bliss.
6. Temptation- (the devil), Greed, lust, perversion, the left handed path, violence, malevolence, temptation, self-destruction, bad temper.
7. Page of Swords- an active dark haired brown eyed boy or girl. a student or member of an institution, someone young, messenger, perception, vigilance.
8. Fool- Adventurous quest, a choice of possibilities, thoughtlessness or foolhardiness, lack of attention to detail. naivete.
9. 8 of Swords- A lack of confidence producing a feeling of self imprisonment. Restriction. Crisis.
10. Page of Cauldrons- A young man or girl with light brown hair. a quiet intelligent youth. one who is studious and meditative. talented in the arts. and offer of service, the bearer of news.
Okay.... The first card reflects the mood surrounding me. I made no specific question, just did a general draw this time to see if it would match. I am in fact in a happy relationship with a good home life, currently building up to financial stability. The second card crosses me- opposing forces to the question or situation. This is funny, because it is a really good description of Andrew, my fiance. blonde hair, blue eyes, mature and responsible, father of my baby, educated.
Third card is above me, expressing my ideal wish in relation to the question. We have proven that i am most certainly fertile.... and we are trying to work towards a successful and prosperous life. (but doesnt everyone?) The fourth card indicates the foundation of the subject under discussion- AND it does hit home. I have been a sad sack for weeks now. I have been a depressive anxious heap of worry over everything, thinking about the past and feeling generally abandoned and alone.
Fifth Card represents the past.- Pretty much, i felt at ease and happy. Things were in good order for me. This could also point to said pregnancy- materializing a spiritual blessing. The sixth card represents the future.- And self-destruction and a bad temper about covers it. I have been in a foul mood for weeks. i have taken it out on others and slowly withdrawn myself from social interaction because i did not fit in with the crowd, as an expecting mother.
The seventh card is the answer to the question- which i am unsure of. Someone i know that is a student? I should be more perceptive and vigilant, and i suppose i do fit the description to a certain degree. I am planning on going back to school as well. Or maybe it is someone i havent met yet.
The eighth card is helpful influences. Maybe i have not been paying attention like i should. And perhaps i am being naive in a way over how i think things should go. i have been wrapped up in my own little world lately.
The ninth card is a description of my personality- and it is dead on to how i have been feeling lately. thanks cards for throwing it in my face....
Finally- the tenth card is the conclusion to be made by the reading- maybe i will get some news or someone will offer to help me with something i have been having a hard time with lately.
so... that is it for now. I will think on it and see if i can put something together later on, though i sort of feel as though it was self explanatory as to how self destructive and down right messy i have been lately. I havent been easy to get along with. And perhaps it is time i had an attitude adjustment and a new dose of reality. Andrew is a good man and he is being so supportive. Maybe i have been insensitive.
