Joyful Revelations In The First Sentence Of The Bible

Joyful Revelations In The First Sentence Of The Bible
By St. Nikolai Velimirovich

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1)."

How compact and full is God's every word! It is like folded linen, which can be carried under the arm and spread upon the grass over a large area. How many, many priceless good things does this word of God reveal to us: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." First of all, it shows us that God is the only eternal and uncreated One. And this first revelation brings about in us the first inexpressible joy. In this whirlpool of change and transience, we are inexpressibly happy that our Creator is beyond change and transience. It further tells us that the one and only good God is the Creator of the world, and since He is the Creator, He is also both the Almighty and the Provider. And this second revelation brings about in us a second inexpressible joy. The world did not proceed out of chaos or chance, without thought and purpose, rather it proceeded from the All-wise God, omniscient and most-merciful, Who is in control of it and is guiding it toward its intended goal. It further reveals to us that this world had a beginning, and consequently it will have an end. And this third revelation brings about in us inexpressible joy. For it would be sad if this world were eternal, and if all its goals, immediate and distant, were to be found only within itself. This would indeed cause a whirlpool in the mind of the intelligent, and sadness in the heart of the righteous. It finally points out to us that God created two worlds, the heavenly and the earthly, or the incorporeal and the corporeal. And this fourth revelation brings us a fourth inexpressible joy. As we now raise our gaze to the heights and rejoice in the sun, moon and stars above our heads, so we can raise our spirit to the spiritual world, toward the angelic world, which is akin to us but purer and brighter than us. We rejoice, for we know that there is a world better than ours, which we will also enter and, like weary travelers, return home and find rest. Oh, how sadly would men's gaze wander around the world if this were the only world and there were no starry heavens! And how sorrowfully would the spirit of man wander in the material world if there were not a spiritual world, the heavenly!

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1)."

Brethren, this is God's answer through the mouth of the prophet, the answer to the question that we all thirst to know: "Whence comes this world?" God hears our question, spoken or unspoken; He hears and gives an answer. Just as He gives rain to the dry earth, just as He gives health to a sick person, just as He gives bread and clothing to the body, so also does He give an answer to our spirit. He gives an answer to the question that has caused it hunger and thirst, pain and nakedness, until it (the spirit) is nourished and quenched, restored to health, and is clothed with the true answer. This is the question: "Whence, therefore, comes this world?" This is the answer: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This world is not of itself, just as nothing in this world is of itself, neither is this world of an evil power, neither is this world of many creators, good and evil, but rather it is of the one gracious God. This answer evokes joy in the heart of every man and incites him to good works. And by this we know, among other things, that this is the only correct and true answer. Every other answer, in contradiction to this, evokes sorrow and fear in us and incites us to evil works, and therefore we know, among other things, that such answers are false. Brethren, the world is from God-let us rejoice and be glad! The world is of divine origin, and consequently its end will also be in God. The world is of a good root, and consequently it will bring forth good fruit. It proceeded from the chamber of light, and it will end in light. When we know that the beginning is good, then we know that it tends toward good and that the end will be good. Behold, in these words about the beginning, the prophecy about the end is already hidden. As was the beginning, so also will be the end. He from Whom the beginning came, in Him also is the end. Therefore, let us hold fast to this saving truth, that we may have shining hope and be strengthened in love toward the One Who, out of love, created us.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1)."

Brethren, whatever God desires to reveal to men is revealed, and whatever He does not desire to reveal remains concealed. Moses, the one who beheld God, could say nothing more about heaven than that in the beginning God created it. Having said that, he continued to describe in detail the creation of the earth. Why does Moses not speak in detail about the creation of heaven? Because God did not want to reveal any more to him, since the men of his time were neither mature enough nor capable of understanding heavenly matters beyond their senses. Only when many centuries had passed and God's New Testament had come to men, did God reveal much more of the heavenly world to His faithful and chosen ones. Only Christians began to see the heavens opened. St. John the Theologian bears witness to this: "After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven" (Revelation 4:1). St. Stephen the Protomartyr witnesses: "Behold, I see the heavens opened" (Acts 7:56). The Apostle Paul, who was "caught up to the third heaven... and heard unspeakable words" (II Corinthians 12:2, 4), speaks of the angelic choirs, about the thrones, dominions, principalities and powers, and says: "All things were created by Him, and for Him" (Colossians 1:16). His disciple, St. Dionysius, describes the celestial hierarchy in as great a detail as Moses describes the earthly world at its creation. This is how the unfathomable wisdom of God wanted it; that which God did not wish to reveal to Moses, He revealed to the apostles and their followers. What could not be told to children is told to mature men. The revelation of mysteries came through spiritual maturity.

Doesnt Work

Doesnt Work

To the same extent Illusion DOESN'T Work

by Van Ault

The entire magician has occasions in which the magic he is directing does not become visible to work. The desired finish, whether family circle or slight, does not come into authority. These occasions are opportunities for director preparation in the magical arts, and by working honest the comedown and disappointment, he can in close proximity to director self-knowledge and systematic intelligence in the art.

I grab that magic forever works. Illusion is a tool, a way of life shaper. Worship any tool, how-ever, its money is elite to the operator's knowledge and elegance.

For an portrayal, let's use the bow and arrow. Your intent is the arrow and your magical spacecraft for directing that intent is the bow. You use the bow/technique to leniency, clear and guide the intention/arrow with the mood of your arms and hands/ judgment and choice.

No matter what happens considering this all works together optimally? The choice short-lived grasps the flatten intent, balances it upon the spacecraft, you know your violent and mental force, and hence fire the intent into the hidden world to be through point toward. In its own time and way, your wish materializes.

In spite of this, if you haven't got the elegance to bring all of these hard work together, possessions can go twisted. Your arrow can deed and go off the point, or it may travel a few feet before losing power. Your bow can break, or not be strong satisfactory to propel the arrow. Or, you may find that you've got your bow and arrow organized to use, but you haven't got suitable mood to platform it.

I attempt the at the rear meditation operate for folks epoch considering it seems that your magic doesn't work. To the same extent you've tried all the techniques, considering you've gotten no have a row, considering you're wondering if any of this matters at all, the operate in this meditation can copy miracles and recoil a wisdom of be over. You can read the script into a keep details, or carry a friend lead you honest it.

Non-Participation And Decentralization As Primers For Revolution

Non-Participation And Decentralization As Primers For Revolution
Brandon SmithACTIVIST POSTWhen writing investigative examinations on the corrupt state of American government and American economy, invariably one is met with the same set of ever cycling broken-record questions and assertions. One of the primary responses I have received and I'm sure most Liberty Movement analysts have received is this:Okay, now we know what the problem is, but when are YOU going to tell US what the solution is...?The question seems "reasonable", but in reality, everything that is weak minded in our culture today is summed up in its content.First, the question insinuates that there is no utility in exploring the nature of a crisis without "fixing" the situation right then and there. Often, the most complex problems of our world require years if not decades of thought and action, trial and error, before a single working solution is generated. When the problem involves a criminal government run by corporatist oligarchs bent on total globalization and centralized control of finance, society, and law, you have to expect that there will be some difficulties in finding a remedy. You will never defeat your enemy without knowing your enemy, and our particular fight requires endless analysis.Second, I wish I could convey the palm-to-forehead agony I feel every time I hear someone begging for myself, or anyone for that matter, to overnight mail them a solution on a silver platter wrapped in perfect little pink bow. Why is it that so many Americans today refuse to offer THEIR OWN solutions to the problems they perceive in the world? Is it laziness, or stupidity, or both? They are so busy waiting for a "white knight" to come and save them they have forgotten to learn how to save themselves. Don't sit idle expecting analysts to make your life better. Become industrious. Take initiative. Think of something we haven't thought of yet. Stop being followers and start becoming leaders within your own communities.Third, the worst of all dilemmas when dealing with the above question is that most of the time, it is being asked by people who already have a preconceived answer they want to hear. Many in our movement today want a silver bullet solution. They want magic and fairy dust. They want to end tyranny with a snap of their fingers, the press of the button, within the span of a day, or perhaps a week. They don't want to have to work beyond their normal capacity, they don't want to struggle, they don't want to sacrifice, and they certainly don't want to risk their property, livelihood, or life. They want a civil rights style MLK/Gandhi march on Washington D.C., which has already been done over and over again leading to nothing but ever more corruption (you don't ask tyrants to police themselves, nor do you ask for their permission to change government). They want an armed march on Washington D.C. (perhaps the most tactically moronic strategy ever to be suggested year after year), leading to nothing more than a bloodbath which would only make the Liberty Movement appear weak, or insane, all in a failed attempt to unseat a bunch of politicians who are merely puppets and middle men for the financial elites. They want Generals grandstanding as purveyors of constitutionalism to initiate a military coup to remove the "evil Muslim" from his seat of power (is Obama a Muslim, or an atheist Communist? These methodologies tend to negate each other...), while the truth is, Obama is nothing more that a minor obstacle compared to the greater evil of central banking and internationalism, and a Neo-Con Republican (or provocateur General) could easily continue Obama's work without missing a beat. And, most of all, they want something flashy, something new, something technological and glorious to solve all their woes. How many times have you heard the claim, for instance, that digital currencies like Bitcoin would "bring down" the central banks and turn the globalist empire to dust at our feet? Yet, Bitcoin's very existence relies on the Web, a government dominated networking system which they can remove from our hands any time they wish. These are not solutions, they are distractions, or worse, con-games. They are designed to fool you into thinking that you can lounge behind your computer, or walk blindly down the street with a sign or a gun, and the nation will attain renaissance without a tear or a drop of blood shed. They are pleasant lies that many people want to have whispered to them.I have no interest in making people feel comfortable, or safe, or at ease in the nature of the task before us. I'm only interested in the truth, and the truth is, REAL solutions have already been offered to the Liberty Movement. For years we've been talking about them, implementing them, and attempting to convince others to implement them. These solutions are not easy. They are not pleasant or quick. They will require much sacrifice, and unimaginable suffering. There is no way around these tasks if we are to succeed and dismantle centralized totalitarianism in our lifetimes...NON-PARTICIPATIONThis is a simple concept that for some reason tends to confound people. If you march to the steps of the White House motivated by a desire to educate others on the hidden dangers of our political situation, then this is all well and good. But, if you march to the steps of the White House with the expectation that this gesture will somehow impress or frighten the military industrial complex into forsaking its criminal ways and step down from power, then you have fallen into a delusional paradigm. If you are using a government controlled communications medium like the Internet to educate others while the system still exists, then this is practical. But, if you really believe that you are going to exploit that same network as an offensive tool to destroy Big Brother, you are living in techno-geek dreamland. And, if you still think that the diseased political arena has any merit whatsoever and that the system can be inoculated from the within, or that you can rewrite the rules on a whim (constitutional convention) and have those rules followed, at this point I don't hold much hope for you. Now, I want you to imagine, just for a moment, that the government does not exist. The Internet does not exist. Corporate banking chains and department stores and grocery outlets do not exist. State law enforcement organizations do not exist. State run schools do not exist. How would you go about living day to day without the bureaucracy, the welfare, the infrastructure, the safety nets? This is how ALL Liberty Movement activists are going to have to start thinking if they want to change anything. The Non-Participation Principle is best summarized like this: "WHEN FACING A CORRUPT SYSTEM, PROVIDE FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR COMMUNITY THOSE NECESSITIES THAT THE SYSTEM CANNOT OR WILL NOT. BECOME INDEPENDENT FROM ESTABLISHMENT-CONTROLLED PARADIGMS. IF YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY DO THIS, THE SYSTEM WILL HAVE ONE OF TWO CHOICES:" * "ADMIT THAT YOU DO NOT NEED THEM ANYMORE AND FADE INTO THE FOG OF HISTORY, OR..." * "REVEAL ITS TYRANNICAL NATURE IN FULL AND ATTEMPT TO FORCE YOU BACK INTO DEPENDENCE."In either case, you win. You have taken proactive measures to remove yourself as a cog in the machine. The machine can then of course try to demonize you, or attack you, but ultimately, they will attack from a place of social and moral weakness, and you will defend from a position of logistical and moral strength.Stop waiting for the system to change, or collapse. Change the way YOU live and survive. Build your own localized systems and walk away.DECENTRALIZATIONLearn a vital trade skill, grow your own food, purchase resource rich raw land, learn self defense methods beyond what law enforcement personnel are trained in (which is not too difficult), take EMT training courses so that you can provide general and emergency medical care for your family, get your children out of the state run common core indoctrination centers and homeschool them, build neighborhood watch groups, emergency response groups, barter markets and alternative economies.Decentralization is about dissolving our unbalanced relationship with the state and taking away their power to dictate how we live. If a core necessity is centralized in the hands of a select few, then we start producing it ourselves and remove that option from their deck of cards. You cannot fight a corrupt system if you are dependent on a corrupt system. The very essence of globalism is centralized oversight of every aspect of our lives. When we allow ourselves to feed from the government or corporate trough because it's "easier", we are essentially volunteering to be herded like animals. It is within the power of every single individual, no matter their age or financial circumstances, to find creative ways in becoming more independent. It is up to you. There are no excuses.REVOLUTIONWe should have no illusions that the criminal elements of our government will simply shrug their shoulders and give up. When we decentralize, we show the world how irrelevant they are. Tyrants must remain relevant to the masses, otherwise, they have no means to dominate except pure force. When that force is eventually applied, the ONLY logical response is revolution. Decentralization is not a means to "avoid" such revolution, it is only a means to strengthen our position in preparation for revolution. There is no ideal revolutionary model because the unique nature of one's epoch determines the nature of one's rebellion. However, I can say that any revolution that does not focus on the foundational culprits behind the offending tyranny is doomed to failure. When I see the overt obsession with Barack Obama as some kind of linchpin in the development of socialism in America, I have to remind people that Obama has merely stood on the legislative efforts of George W. Bush, and so many other globalist presidents before him, in order to bring the U.S. to the current point of catastrophe. And who made these men, these so-called "leaders"? Who financed their campaigns? Who taught them the internationalist methodologies they now implement? Who really controls money, and thus economy, and thus politics in this country?Revolution must be directed at the oligarchs, not just their mascots, and if anyone asks you to rally around a revolution that does not name central banking and international banking entities and the men who run them as direct culprits, they are probably controlled opposition. We don't need a French or Bolshevik Revolution to replace old puppets with new puppets, we need to go to the very heart of the cancer that has stricken our nation and remove it. If this means we have to physically fight back, then so be it, but we must be smart in how we fight. In the end, the average citizen is his own defender, his own governor, his own industrialist, his own "king maker". He may consciously realize this, or he may be oblivious. All of the solutions, all of the tools, are right there, in his hands, waiting to be used. The saddest truth of all is that the only thing holding him back from legitimate freedom is his own fear. Only when we stop avoiding the pain required to procure independence, will we finally have it."You can contact Brandon Smith at": brandon@alt-market.com". After Religion What

After Religion What
AS FOR CEREMONY, ALREADY THE LEAVES HAVE SWIRLED OVER, THE WIND HAS SPOKEN - ANDREW BROWN, "CAUTE"

We have just been through a week in which we have seen yet further examples of the deeply problematic nature of religion - especially in its monotheistic varieties.

...

My question - developing in various ways since 9/11 - is how might we continue to access these sacramental energies without resorting to the language of the gods/God with which they were once so indissolubly linked? In short, what religion might look like after religion - after God? This is a wonderful post and very gently articulates what I have been struggling to say in several different ways: that religion is "not "all about fundamentalist nutters threatening to blow things up and burn things because the world isn't how they think it should be.

Many of my Pagan friends seek to blame fundamentalism on monotheism, claiming that polytheism is inherently more tolerant. This is understandable, but it does the liberal monotheists a disservice. I think polytheism can be intolerant too - look at what happened to Socrates.

I think the problem is twofold: assuming that metaphors for the ineffable mystery are literal, concrete and graspable; and assuming that religion is an external process, something you do, a set of laws you adhere to, rather than an internal process and an internal apprehension of harmony.

Maternal Martyrdom

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Pope Francis in his Wednesday Audience of Jan.7, 2015 quoted the saintly Archbishop Romero:

Quote:

...Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero said... mothers live a maternal martyrdom. In the homily of the funeral of a priest killed by death squads, he said, echoing Vatican Council II: We must all be ready to die for our faith, even if the Lord does not grant us this honor to give ones life does not only mean to be killed; to give ones life, to have the spirit of martyrdom, is to give in duty, in silence, in prayer, in the honest fulfillment of ones duty; in the silence of daily life; to give ones life little by little. Yes, as a mother gives it who, without fear, with the simplicity of MATERNAL MARTYRDOM, conceives a child in her womb, brings him to life, nurses him, helps him grow and attends to him with affection. It is to give ones life. It is martyrdom. The quotation ends there. Yes, to be a mother does not mean only to bring a child into the world, but it is also a choice of life. What does a mother choose, what is a mothers choice of life? A mothers choice of life is the choice to give life, and this is great, this is beautiful.

A society without mothers would be an inhuman society, because mothers are always able to witness, even in the worst moments, tenderness, dedication, moral strength. Mothers also often transmit the profoundest meaning of religious practice. The value of the faith is inscribed in the life of a human being in the first prayers, in the first gestures of devotion that a child learns. It is a message that believing mothers are able to transmit without explanations: these will come later, but the seed of the faith is in those first, most precious moments -- and the Church is Mother, with all this, she is our Mother! We are not orphans; we have a Mother! Our Lady, the Mother of the Church, is our Mother. We are not orphans; we are children of the Church, we are children of Our Lady, and we are children of our mothers.

Dearest mothers, thank you; thank you for what you are in the family and for what you give to the Church and to the world. And to you, beloved Church, thank you, thank you for being Mother. And to you, Mary, Mother of God, thank you for having us see Jesus. The full text is HERE

Mary is the Mother and Model for all of us. Together as her sons and daughters in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we build up His Body in Love. The Church needs this spirit of "maternal martyrdom" -- the willingness to give freely and without fear, little by little, in the silence of daily life.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Form Jesus in us as you did in Mary.

Moonset Legacy Of Moonset 1 By Scott Tracey

Moonset Legacy Of Moonset 1 By Scott Tracey
The Moonset were a coven that tried to change witch society. Through a series co terrorist attacks they took out most of their challengers, killed any witch or coven that could stand against them. They built a cult of followers.

But they didn't win. Slowly but surely they were pushed back until, to everyone's surprise, they surrendered and were executed. Leaving behind their 5 children - protected by a curse that prevented them from being harmed or separated, the witch government was left with the Moonset's children to raise

Which is where we come in, following Justin, Malcolm, Jenna, Cole and Bailey, the children of the hated Moonset, moved from place to place and held by witch guardians who can barely hide their disdain for the troublesome teens. Until the latest move to a town where it all began - a town with a warlock lurking in the shadows, demanding the Moonset children.

Are the teens there as bait? Or as collateral damage and quiet removal?

Look at that synopsis and drool, folks. A secret magical society with some excellent world building on the nature and workings of magic, hints of far more to come. A coven gone to the dark side and executed, their children bonding together both through unknown magic and desperate self-preservation in a society that is determined to hold them responsible for their parents' crimes. Their close bonds, their anger, their trust issues and their desire for acceptance all at war, overlaid with a dark plot to try and draw them into the same dark side their parents embraced. But then, a new thread to the mystery - maybe their parents were not so simple as was previously suggested...

Seriously, how could you not write an awesome story with this as its seed? It's a wonderfully imaginative gift, there's so much there, there's essences of originality, compelling hooks for a whole story and so many wonderful things to explore. How could this book not be awesome?

No, really... how could you not write an excellent book with this?

That isn't a rhetorical question. Because I'm at a loss how such a wonderful world, setting and idea could produce this rather dull book. It's like seeing someone take a wonderful block of gold veined marble and making door stops with it.

Primarily, this is because of the writing. It's very overwritten, very over descriptive and metaphors and similes have been crammed in like commuters in a London Tube at rush hour. And even less smoothly than that one. If you cut out the excess verbiage this book could have been half as long and much faster moving; we don't need everything described in such vivid and exhaustive detail - it doesn't set the scene, it distracts from it and focuses on irrelevant minutia. Like the travelling, we're treated to several paragraphs of Justin wondering whether they're in New York state - yes, you are, now move on! And not only do we have a lot of "tell" rather than "show" but sometimes the tell is used to try and overwhelm the show. Like Justin muses how he's disturbed at how many of their days end with bandages and bleach (i.e. they get hurt a lot) and we see this by... it never happening again the whole book. Or happening again before this incident either. In fact, since before this they were just moved around while Jenna got them expelled, I fail to see why it was a major factor before.

Sometimes the writing even destroys the mood - like describing a Wraith in wonderfully creepy terms and then having him have a voice that hisses like a deflating tire. Really? Because I was with your cinder crackling, bone crunching, sibilant wraith, only now he's deflating like some kind of spooky Michelin man. Less is more sometimes. Or there's similes that are just so over the top that the scene is ruined by my mad cackling, example:

"Cut the wraith down like it was the first born son, and this was a plague."

There's no way the author wrote that line with a straight face.

The book is also hopelessly focused on one character - Justin. No-one else is explored with any great depth, no relationships are truly developed and explained or shown. Everything is from Justin's viewpoint and most of that contains a lot of telling, a lot of monologuing and a lot of angst. It doesn't help that's he's more than a little self-absorbed. He thinks of his siblings - but only in the shallowest ways and usually in terms of protecting them or, more often, preventing them getting in trouble. He doesn't have any kind of friendship with them or even any kind of relationship - they're burdens to control and irritations to endure.

It is my hope that the realization that God recognizes us as living beings, with a future and a plan that he has already mapped out for us, while we are still in the womb, will inspire women to bring their babies to birth.

Click HERE to read the wonderful story of life in the womb "ANGELS IN THE WATERS" by REGINA DOMAN. Regina states this book was inspired by an experience with her sisters: " My YOUNGEST SISTER ANNA started to talk when she was not even two years old. MY SISTER ALICIA, who WAS STUDYING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, had READ THAT SOME YOUNG CHILDREN WHO LEARNED TO TALK EARLY CAN DESCRIBE LIFE IN THE WOMB. So Alicia asked Anna if she remembered being in Mommy's tummy. 'Yes,' Anna said. 'What was it like?' Alicia asked. Anna said. 'IT WAS WARM AND DARK, AND THERE WAS AN ANGEL THERE.'

A MESSAGE TO WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD ABORTIONS (AND TO THE DOCTORS AND NURSES WHO PARTICIPATED IN ABORTIONS):

1. I direct you to the Link: FORGIVE - AND THEN GOD WILL FORGIVE YOU- GOD FORGIVES AND FORGETS YOUR SIN ! GOD IS A GOD OF LOVE AND FORGIVENESS. ALL HE ASKS IS THAT WE RECOGNIZE OUR SIN AND REQUEST HIS FORGIVENESS. When we seek his forgiveness with a contrite heart, the Bible tells us he will not only forgive us, GOD WILL ACTUALLY REMEMBER OUR SIN NO MORE!

2. When God tells us to forgive, this also means FORGIVING YOURSELF. WHEN GOD HAS FORGIVEN AND FORGOTTEN, THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOU TO CONDEMN YOURSELF - But, as Jesus said to the Samaritain woman at the well "Go and sin no more'". This does not mean you will be perfect. But ask God for the grace not to repeat the same sin you have just confessed to.

In his time, as he works on you, God, through the Holy Spirit, will show you other sins that will need to be confessed and forgiven - that's OK. God will lead you step by step. Work on them, one at a time, as God brings them to your awareness. We are all a work in progress as we look forward to our eternal life with God, our Father, Jesus, our Brother and the Holy Spirit, the Counselor and Comforter.

IT COSTS TO FIGHT FOR LIFE - August 21, 2011

"Shiphrah and Puah allow male children to live"

TODAY'S SPECIAL: Exodus 1:1-22

TO CHEW ON: "The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,"When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth and observe them on the delivery stool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live." The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. - Exodus 1:15-17

Imagine the anguish and soul-searching these women must have wrestled with when they heard Pharaoh's command to kill each male Israelite baby on delivery. With all their instincts and training shouting "Live!" I wonder if they, for even a moment, considered obeying Pharaoh's demonic order?

There's no doubt Pharaoh and his law sparked a smoulder of fear within them. But there was One they feared more: "... the midwives feared God..."

["Feared - yare'- means to fear, be afraid of someone or something, to stand in awe of something or someone possessing great power; to revere someone.... The fear of God is not a terror that He is against us or will strike without cause or warning. Rather, the fear of the Lord produces wise, healthy actions, as in the present reference; the midwives were more afraid of angering God by destroying innocent babies than they were of disobeying Pharaoh" - Dick Mills and David Michaels, "Word Wealth - Feared," New Spirit-Filled Life Bible, p. 78.]

I can't help but see the similarities between the situations of these midwives and people who work in the medical profession in Canada. Here the practice of abortion is widespread with no law against it regardless of how far along the mother is. In many hospitals nurses and doctors have the option of refusing to perform abortions, but not in all. Additionally, with state-paid-for medical costs rising, it's easy to foresee the day when it will be the law to abort any child that could be a potential drain on the medical system.

And so the question comes to us who are in these situations, indeed, to people in any place where convictions clash with the state's rules: Who do we fear more, Pharaoh or God?

PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for the example of these Hebrew women who feared You to the extent of putting their careers and lives in jeopardy. Help me to fear You above any human custom or law. Amen.

MORE: Civil disobedience

The fallout for civil disobedience for these Hebrew midwives was good: Exodus 1:21. But that is not the fate of all such actions. Whenever we disobey the law of the land in adherence to a higher law we risk consequences. Mary-Lynn McPherson describes the situation for pro-life nurses in Canada:

"Some hospitals require nurses to agree to 'perform any health service' as a requirement of hiring. Across Canada, nurses do not have the legal right to refuse to participate in procedures to which they are morally or religiously opposed. Some have been disciplined, and even fired, for discussing options to abortion with patients." (Please read all of "FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE.")

Our willingness to suffer these consequences in the here and now tests our faith in many areas including our faith in God, the rightness of His standards, and His ability to bring about ultimate justice.

For those of us not on the front lines in these battles, let's pray for the people who are, anywhere in the world. In this particular battle in Canada they include physicians and pharmacists as well as nurses.

ISAIAH 49:15-16

15 "CAN A MOTHER FORGET THE BABY AT HER BREAST AND HAVE NO COMPASSION ON THE CHILD SHE HAS BORNE? THOUGH SHE MAY FORGET, I WILL NOT FORGET YOU!

16 See, I HAVE ENGRAVED YOU ON THE PALMS OF MY HANDS

PSALM 139: 1-18

1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4 BEFORE A WORD IS ON MY TONGUE YOU KNOW IT COMPLETELY, O LORD.

5 You hem me in-behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7 WHERE CAN I GO FROM YOUR SPIRIT? WHERE CAN I FLEE FROM YOUR PRESENCE?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"

12 EVEN THE DARKNESS WILL NOT BE DARK TO YOU; THE NIGHT WILL SHINE LIKE THE DAY, FOR DARKNESS IS AS LIGHT TO YOU.

13 For YOU CREATED MY INMOST BEING; YOU KNIT ME TOGETHER IN MY MOTHER'S WOMB.

14 I praise you because I AM FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE; YOUR WORKS ARE WONDERFUL, I know that full well.

15 MY FRAME WAS NOT HIDDEN FROM YOU WHEN I WAS MADE IN THE SECRET PLACE. WHEN I WAS WOVEN TOGETHER IN THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH,

16 YOUR EYES SAW MY UNFORMED BODY. ALL THE DAYS ORDAINED FOR ME WERE WRITTEN IN YOUR BOOK BEFORE ONE OF THEM CAME TO BE.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

JEREMIAH 1: 4-5 THE CALL OF JEREMIAH

4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5 "BEFORE I FORMED YOU IN THE WOMB I KNEW YOU, BEFORE YOU WERE BORN I SET YOU APART; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

ISAIAH 44: 2, 24

2 This is what THE LORD says-he WHO MADE YOU, WHO FORMED YOU IN THE WOMB, and who will help you:.... 24 "This is what THE LORD says- your Redeemer, WHO FORMED YOU IN THE WOMB: I AM THE LORD, WHO HAS MADE ALL THINGS, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,

PSALM 100: 1-5A PSALM. FOR GIVING THANKS.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that THE LORD IS GOD. IT IS HE WHO MADE US, and we are his ; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

"SWIM AND DIVING BOARD BABY"

ISAIAH 49: 1-6THE SERVANT OF THE LORD

1 Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: BEFORE I WAS BORN THE LORD CALLED ME; FROM MY BIRTH HE HAS MADE MENTION OF MY NAME.2 He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.4 But I said, "I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the LORD's hand, and my reward is with my God." 5 And now THE LORD SAYSHE WHO FORMED ME IN THE WOMB TO BE HIS SERVANT to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength- 6 he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I WILL ALSO MAKE YOU A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES [NONJEWS], THAT YOU MAY BRING MY SALVATION TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH."

PSALM 127: 3-5

3 SONS ARE A HERITAGE FROM THE LORD, CHILDREN A REWARD FROM HIM. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

PROVERBS 17: 6

CHILDRENS CHILDREN ARE A CROWN TO THE AGED, and parents are the pride of their children.

JOB 10: 8-128 "YOUR HANDS SHAPED ME AND MADE ME. WILL YOU NOW TURN AND DESTROY ME?9 Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?10 DID YOU NOT pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese,11 CLOTHE ME WITH SKIN AND FLESH AND KNIT ME TOGETHER WITH BONES AND SINEWS?12 YOU GAVE ME LIFE and showed me kindness, AND IN YOUR PROVIDENCE WATCHED OVER MY SPIRIT.

JOB 31: 13-15

13 "IF I HAVE DENIED JUSTICE TO MY MENSERVANTS AND MAIDSERVANTS WHEN THEY HAD A GRIEVANCE AGAINST ME, 14 WHAT WILL I DO WHEN GOD CONFRONTS ME? WHAT WILL I ANSWER WHEN CALLED TO ACCOUNT?15 Did not HE WHO MADE ME IN THE WOMB make them? DID NOT THE SAME ONE FORM US BOTH WITHIN OUR MOTHERS?

PSALM 22: 9-10

9. Yet YOU BROUGHT ME OUT OF THE WOMB; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast.10 From birth I was cast upon you; FROM MY MOTHER'S WOMB YOU HAVE BEEN MY GOD.

ISAIAH 46: 3-4 ( New Living Translation)

3... I HAVE CARED FOR YOU SINCE YOU WERE BORN. YES, I CARRIED YOU BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. 4 I will be your God throughout your lifetime- until your hair is white with age. I MADE YOU, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

LUKE 1: 5-17THE BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST FORETOLD

5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a PRIEST named ZECHARIAH, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife ELIZABETH was also a descendant of Aaron. 6 Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly. 7 But THEY HAD NO CHILDREN, BECAUSE ELIZABETH WAS BARREN; AND THEY WERE BOTH WELL ALONG IN YEARS.8 Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, 9 he was CHOSEN BY LOT, ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOM OF THE PRIESTHOOD, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.11 Then an ANGEL OF THE LORD appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. YOUR WIFE ELIZABETH WILL BEAR YOU A SON, AND YOU ARE TO GIVE HIM THE NAME JOHN. 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and HE WILL BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT EVEN FROM BIRTH [OR FROM HIS MOTHER'S WOMB]. 16 Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. 17 And HE WILL GO ON BEFORE THE LORD, IN THE SPIRIT AND POWER OF ELIJAH, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS TO THEIR CHILDREN AND THE DISOBEDIENT TO THE WISDOM OF THE RIGHTEOUSTO MAKE READY A PEOPLE PREPARED FOR THE LORD."

LUKE 1: 39-45MARY VISITS ELIZABETH

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, THE BABY LEAPED IN HER WOMB, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and BLESSED IS THE CHILD YOU WILL BEAR! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 AS SOON AS THE SOUND OF YOUR GREETING REACHED MY EARS, THE BABY IN MY WOMB LEAPED FOR JOY. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!"

GALATIANS 1: 15-16PAUL CALLED BY GOD

GOD, WHO SET ME APART FROM BIRTH [Or FROM MY MOTHER'S WOMB] and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles [non-Jews], I did not consult any man,

I can move my fingers.I can move my toes.I'm a real person, even if you don't show. I know you feel sorrow.I know you feel pain. But just wait 'til you see my smile,You have so much to gain.

I'm sorry you are troubled.I'm sorry for your strife. But I'll love you anyway,If you just give me life.

"WHEN GOD MADE YOU"

When God Made You

Its always been a mystery to me,

How two hearts can come together,

And love can last forever.

But now that I have found you I believe,

That a miracle has come when God sends the perfect one.

So gone are all my questions about why,

And I've never been so sure of anything in my life

~chorus~

Oh I wonder what God was thinking, when he created you.

I wonder if He knew everything I would need,

Because he made all my dreams come true.

When God made you, He must have been thinking about me.

Ooo ooo, I promise that wherever you may go, wherever life may lead you,

With all my heart I'll be there too.

And from this moment on I want you to know,

I'll let nothing come between us, and I will love the ones you love.

So gone are all my questions about why

(about why)

Oh I wonder what God was thinking when he created you,

I wonder if He knew everything I would need,

Because He made all my dreams come true.

When God made you He must've been thinking about me.

He made the sun He made the moon,

To harmonize a perfect tune,

One can't do without the other they just have to be together.

And that is how I know its true,

Your for me and I'm for you and my world

Just cant be right without you in my life

Chorus

He must have heard every prayer I've been praying

I've been praying He must've knew everything I would need

When God made you, He must've been thinking about me.

4 Simple Meditation Techniques For Beginners

4 Simple Meditation Techniques For Beginners
There have been quite a few medical benefits meditation has shown to exhibit. Lower blood pressure, effective treatment for pain and evidence of physical brain growth are just a few.Unless you're unfamiliar with meditation, it can be confusing as to where to start. Using these simple meditation techniques, clear away some of the confusion and introduce yourself to the art of meditation.Simple Meditation Techniques For Beginners

* Yoga/Tai chi- Both yoga and tai chi integrate the art of meditation within its practice, bridging together both mind and body. Often when practicing yoga, you won't even realize the state of conscience you are in until after the session is over. With my first experience with yoga, I thought "Wow, I never thought I could let go of my thoughts for that long." It was a truly refreshing experience.

* Guided meditation- This is one of my favorite meditation techniques for beginners because they can make it very easy to relax and let the mind do what it needs to do. Simply listen to some light music and follow the instructions from the narrator as they lead you through your session by guiding your thoughts. Often, coupled with a mantra (a sound, word or phrase) to bring the mind back to its "path" when it wanders, guided meditations work great for those who have no idea what to do.

* Binaural beats- These programs take a very scientific approach to ancient art of meditation. As you listen to light music or soft noise, an undetectable tone is played in each ear, both at a separate frequency. Our minds produce different frequencies when we achieve different levels of meditation, enhancing different functions associated with those frequencies. So what these programs do is resonate our brain to the desired frequency we choose. Kind of like when you hold a vibrating tuning fork close to a second one, that second tuning fork will pick up the vibration. By playing these tones at different frequencies, it's believed to induce the mind to levels of relaxation, creativity and other desirable results.

* Zen Meditation- This is one of the truest techniques you can attempt and is absolutely free! Zen meditation directs the attention of the practitioner to their breaths through the meditation. When distracting thoughts or feeling start to creep in, bring your attention back to your breath. Imagine clean, pure air refreshing you as you breath in. Conversely, release all tension and negativity as you breath out. Start out with just a couple minutes a day and add a little time when you're comfortable. Soon you will be able to achieve meditation quite quickly and easily.

Once you're familiar with the art of meditation, you will realize it can be implemented into many parts of our everyday life. From the not-so-subtle use of meditation in yoga and tai chi to using meditation in everyday activities like walking and gardening, its application to life is very diverse. Not only great for the mind, but these simple meditation techniques for beginners can help introduce you to a rewarding practice for balancing mind, body and spirit.Once I discovered how good meditation made me feel, I began writing and sharing about the benefits meditation can have. Every day, I realize more and more how a connection to ourselves can help create a better, more compassionate world. Visit my blog to see how I try to implement my learning from meditation every day.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Scott Dziadul

Finance Magick

Finance Magick
When Jason came to town, he did a class on finance magick. One of things I really appreciated is that he started his talk by giving a brief review of what all the personal finance books tell you. Frankly none if it all that hard, it just takes discipline. If you have the discipline, how much magick do you really need in this area?

Once upon a time, I was married. Shortly, thereafter my now ex-wife declared she wanted a house. Her credit card debts were too high. My credit card debts were too high. She made enough money. I did not. I took over the finances and we had a very nice house within eighteen months.

Later in life, I found a book on finance that really impressed me. Basically, it said to use the methods that I 'invented' to get us out of trouble. I recommended this book to everyone on the local pagan discussion lists. One person bought the book. She and her husband are now house shopping! She sent me a very nice thank you note for the recommendation.

After Jason's talk, I realized while this person actually applied the lessons in the book, I did not.I am in nearly the exact place I was two years ago. As one of the few Americans with no credit card debt at all, I am in the vast minority. I still owe on my car and house. Having looked at the budget, I have no idea why. My car should have been paid off a year ago. I am now working on having it paid off a year from now. We'll see if I have the discipline to do it. After that, I'm working on the house.

The concepts in this book are easy to follow. Follow them! The book is written by a Christian and he quotes scripture. Who cares? The information is valuable and the scripture directly relates to money. The book is not preachy about religion. It is very direct about money. Read the book. Follow the book. Get rich making what you already make.

This book is worth every penny. If you are employed and not rich, it is because you haven't read and applied the lessons of this book. It is that simple.

This morning, I did get up early enough to do offerings and invoke spirit. I was too groggy to do good ritual. Though, about 10 minutes later, I felt happy and an energetic buzz as if I had just drank some caffeine.

Christopher West Responds To Critics

Christopher West Responds To Critics
If you missed it, dowry was a lot of criticism about Christopher West after he appeared on Nightline. You can read about it trendy, trendy, and trendy (that is entitlement a sampling).West has responded from top to bottom. You can read the utter of his counter trendy. Present is the beginning:In imitation of the public dialogue about my work spread-out succeeding my band on Nightline continue May, I did not swanky it was far-sighted for me to reply until I had submitted the count up to my local bishops. Now that Cardinal Justin Rigali and Bishop Kevin Rhoades display issued a list, it seems suitable for me to tender some reflections as well.Head of state, I resolve to thank the multitude men and women - former students, married couples, catechists, theologians, seminarians, priests, deacons, devout, and bishops - who contacted me to tender their sustain participating in this time. I display under enemy control them to inner self. Indeed, I display reliably weighed my critics' clarification observantly and prayerfully. They display helped me absolute my opinion a deep get dull the time and I stay very beholden for that. That said, to a large extent of the criticism that appeared after the Nightline interview importantly distorted what I teach. Rumors were unremitting so repeatedly that back up commentators harshly treated troubled accusations as fact. At the same time as I do not diagram to reply machine by machine to the particular criticisms, it seems I would be unprofessional as a trainer of the Religion of the Wand (TOB) not to think hastily on what seems to be the innermost machine of the dialogue. It is "innermost" in the imagine that common slant on this machine pivots them in very different information each time evaluating my work. This machine is as a consequence in focus in as to a large extent as it leads us to what I, and multitude others, remove to be "the rock" of John Paul II's TOB.I tender these reflections in a spirit of reticence and love for all associates complicated, not in an step to "substantiate" individually. I am well up that associates looking for flaws in me drive reliably be mighty to find them. I, alike every interpreter of the Pope's outline, bring my own being perspectives, gifts, and shortcomings to the numeral. That's why I bring to mind my readers and students repeatedly to "test everything; tally fast to what is good" (1 Thess 5:21). The incredibly applies to what follows.

Satanic Debt Racket Exposed In Banker Novel

Satanic Debt Racket Exposed In Banker Novel
It all becomes very clear. These families have been milking us for centuries. We are quite literally their "cattle" i.e. goyim.

by Henry Makow Ph.D.

"Bank Crisis Set to Trigger New Credit Crunch" says the latest newspaper headline.

Belgium author Pascal Roussel, 45, is well placed to explain the financial turmoil convulsing the world. By day, he works in the Financial Risk Dept. of the European Investment Bank in Luxemburg.

No, he is not an Illuminati banker but a mere functionary. But he does not take his position lightly. For the last ten years, he has been studying the Illuminati conspiracy and has made contact with insiders. The result is a novel, "Divina Insidia - The Divine Trap," which explains the Illuminati conspiracy to the incredulous, and contains new insights and nuggets of information for old hands.

Most important, Roussel presents the conspiracy in a simple and plausible way, throwing our collective predicament into frightening relief.

"OLIGARCHIC FAMILIES"

According to Roussel, twelve "oligarchic families" have grown indescribably wealthy by lending "money" to governments at interest. These are the central bankers. Most but not all are Illuminati Jews. Their wealth is in the trillions. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are paupers in comparison.

It all becomes very clear. These families have been milking us for centuries. We are quite literally their "cattle" i.e. goyim.

The whole of modern history can be explained by their farm management practices. Wars are started to increase the debt and cull the herd. The goal is to cull the herd to 500 million and chip the remnant. These families and their henchmen own 80% of the world's wealth and do nothing useful yet believe the impoverished majority are parasites.

Roussel, (left,) explains how compound interest resulted in astronomical exponential gains year-after-year. All religions have banned lending at interest to prevent what actually has occurred: this immense wealth and power has fallen into the hands of Satanists.

The world's major banks are mere proxies for these twelve families who create the money out of nothing. (The banks get their "money" from them.) Greece is the target now but eventually the whole world will be squeezed like an lemon to get this "money" back. ("We will absorb all the wealth of the world," is how Cecil Rhodes described it to his patron Nathan Rothschild.)

They threaten depositors will lose their savings if banks fail. But, it is really these twelve families of generational Satanists who want their pound of flesh.

If our governments weren't run by their lackeys, they would protect the deposits and let the "oligarchic families" twist in the wind. Roussel doesn't name the families but obviously one is the Rothschilds.

Roussel explains that fractional reserve banking is a ponzi scheme. They lend 90 for every 100 on deposit. Those 90 are deposited somewhere else and 81 more dollars are lent. So it continues ad infinitum.

Obviously, the way to fight this beast is to withdraw your cash from the bank.

THE NOVEL

Roussel's narrative revolves around a Rothschild who has a spiritual revelation and wants to issue a warning. He selects an attractive young Swiss journalist, Ann Standford, to write a book and deposits a fortune into her bank account.

He then takes her on a Cook's Tour of Illuminati landmarks -- the Georgia Guidestones, a Bilderberg meeting, Bohemian Grove etc. -- explaining some aspect of the conspiracy in each place.

He describes its origins in paganism and the Kabbalah, which led to the Illuminist philosophy. But ultimately, it boils down to debt and interest.

"You want to defeat us?" Roussel's Rothschild says."Abolish loans with interest and don't create any more money. Economic cycles will disappear. Wealth will no longer be concentrated in the hands of a few "mega creditors" like me and money will gain value in time. What you bequeath to your children will have more value than when you first got it."

Meanwhile another Illuminati "superior" has put assassins on their trail. Roussel's storytelling is workman-like and his wholesome European Christian sensibility is uplifting.

The ending is quite unexpected and inspired. The book is worth reading for it alone. Roussel leaves us with a credible vision of defiance and hope. All we need do is affirm the Truth and resist evil. The whole rotten structure will collapse.

"So where did Firiona say she was going, anyway?" Tivalin asked.

"She said she couldn't tell us all, or else --," Naissa replied, looking upwards and suddenly clamping her hands over her ears. "What is that sound?"

"What do you mean?" he asked, cocking his head. "I don't hear a thing."

"My ears are about to burst!"

"Calm down. You've always been sensitive to powerful magic; it's probably a new experiment. Let me cast this shield over you. It should--"

Beams of light struck all around them, scorching the marble of the courtyard. Tivalin looked up, shielding his eyes against the blinding light that suddenly appeared at the top of the dome.

"By Tsaph's heart! Run!" Tivalin screamed as he pulled the helpless Naissa into the temple. He took a deep breath to sound the alarm, but his cry only came out as a muffled grunt when a red-mailed fist sent him reeling into unconsciousness.

"Sit down, hero. I'm not here for you and I don't have time to chat." The dark elven Mistress of Hate stepped over the pair as she stalked into the chamber where the legendary Combine ruler Tsaph Katta had resided since his poisoning. Behind her, water poured into the city.

That's why we find take care figuring untrustworthily in the Bible, from Pharaoh, to the take care of the prophets, Nebuchadnezzar, and Pilate's other partly. It was a infected up superstitious world where they all the way next to take care were sent from the gods as divine messages. This is no difficulty which we can no longer flood and willing one additional let off why I punish the Bible as inspired by God to the especially measurement lengthwise take care were a prodigious baffle of its textile. Religion Belief Christian And Voodou Tensions Heightened In Haiti

Religion Belief Christian And Voodou Tensions Heightened In Haiti
For Christians still reflecting on the earthquake tragedy that struck Haiti two recent and troubling aspects of a news story need to be carefully reflected upon in terms of our attitudes and actions toward those of other religions, particularly those that make Christians uncomfortable.

The Associated Press reports that a group of Evangelical Christians attacked a group of voodou practitioners.

"Voodooists gathered in Cite Soleil where thousands of quake survivors live in tents and depend on food aid. Praying and singing, the group was trying to conjure spirits to guide lost souls when a crowd of Evangelicals started shouting. Some threw rocks while others urinated on Voodoo symbols. When police left, the crowd destroyed the altars and Voodoo offerings of food and rum."Some of this violence might be understood in relation to the escalating tensions that are running high, including religious ones, as a result of the devastation and deteriorating conditions in the country. But even so, this event is troubling to say the least, particularly in light of the second aspect of the story. This comes from comments made by a representative of a Christian ministry cited in the AP story:

"We would give food to the needy in the short term but if they refused to give up Voodoo, I'm not sure we would continue to support them in the long term because we wouldn't want to perpetuate that practice. We equate it with witchcraft, which is contrary to the Gospel."The Christianity Today liveblog pursued the circumstances surrounding this quote and contacted the individual who made them. He is claiming that his comments were taken out of context and misrepresented. The reader can click here to read the blog post with the broader comments in order to assess the situation.

My hope is that these comments were not made, in any context. It seems difficult to think of any kind of more favorable context in which to find the comments more palatable. But regardless, this raises issues that Christians need to reflect upon, both in international situations where humanitarian need is met for those who are members of other religions, as well as in local neighborhoods where we rub shoulders with practitioners of other spiritual pathways.

First, we have got to figure out ways in which to seek a better understanding of the religions of others, especially with those religions that are often equated with "witchcraft." The association of voodou with the "witchcraft" of the Bible demonstrates a misunderstanding and misrepresentation of the beliefs of others, and when this is combined with the fears of "dark spiritual forces" found among Evangelicals, particularly in charismatic traditions, it is only natural that friction will result.

Second, Evangelicals need to move beyond viewing people in other religious traditions as objects for evangelism wherein the meeting of need is the means to the end of conversion. My thinking in this was stimulated most recently in reading a book that combined considerations from brain sciences with ideas related to religious conversion. Due to his perspective on human nature, as informed both by brain research and fresh biblical reflection, the author took exception to the common fundamentalist and Evangelical emphasis on "saving souls" and called for a more holistic approach that emphasized meeting human need as the Jesus story is lived out in different cultural contexts. Human beings, regardless of their religion or irreligion, are fellow image bearers of God and we come alongside of them to meet their needs as an outworking of our love for them and God regardless of whether they decide to embrace the pathway of Jesus.

I throw my thoughts into the mix for readers here, as well as for those who may weigh in at the Christianity Today liveblog site.
