Signed title page of Runemarks
" by Joanne Harris
English author Joanne Harris studied Modern and Medieval Languages at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, before spending fifteen years teaching language and literature. Her debut as a novelist was "The Evil Seed" (1989), but it was her third novel that propelled her to international stardom; "Chocolat" earned the number one spot on the "Sunday Times" bestseller list, and the film adaption (with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche) was a commercial and critical success. Since that first breakthrough, Harris has written a series of bestselling novels including "Holy Fools" and "The Lollipop Shoes". Two of her sixteen published books are French cookbooks, and her short stories have been featured in numerous collections.
In "Runemarks"(2007), Harris imagines the aftermath of Ragnar"ok, "five hundred years after the End of the World." It's a world quite different from the one suggested in the "Eddas", but it has deep roots in Norse mythology. The old gods have fallen and a new religion has risen. A young girl named Maddy is born with a "runemark" - a rune on her skin that marks her as a relation of the Norse gods and invests her with mystic power. Over the course of the novel, she befriends Odin (as much as one can be a friend with the Furious One), travels with Loki, and becomes embroiled in a struggle involving the resurgent AEsir and Vanir and the minions of the new religion known as the Order.
"
Maddy the Old English rune poem provides lines for the cantrips spoken by your characters - cantrip" itself being an archaic English and Scottish word for "spell" or "incantation". In the "Runemarks" world, Red Horse Hill is rumored to have been a place of heathen sacrifice or a burial mound, and it has an ancient carving of a horse that "never grassed over in spring, nor did the winter snow ever hide its shape" - which is reminiscent of the Uffington White Horse and other English chalk horses. "Runemarks"' map shows that the Middle Worlds look like the British Isles, with World's End in the general area of London. Why did you decide to use an English setting, rather than a Nordic one? Did the choice enable you tell a different type of story than if, for instance, the events took place in Iceland?
JH - I don't think I made a conscious choice to set the books in a neo-British setting. To me it simply came naturally. I'm more familiar with my Yorkshire home than I am with, say, Iceland or Scandinavia, and there are already so many links here to Viking culture. There are Viking remains all around Yorkshire, from runic stones to burial mounds. I worked as a volunteer on the Coppergate dig in York when I was a teenager - the site that was to become Jorvik. Scratch the soil almost anywhere here, and you'll find that our back gardens are all filled with Viking leavings.

Viking re-enactors at the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, England
Just outside my home village of Almondbury - which was to become Malbry in the Rune books - there are the foundations of an Iron Age fort on a hill. Castle Hill became Red Horse Hill without much alteration, and I've used some other local names, such as Farnley Tyas, mostly for my own amusement and that of my daughter, for whom I wrote the books in the first place. I wanted to try and recreate the way in which belief systems migrate and are recreated locally to suit the needs of each location in which they are adopted; in this case, my own region, which has harbored the remnants of Viking culture for centuries, even to adopting Danish words into our local dialect. For instance, the word laik" ("to play") was very common when I was a child, e.g., "A' tha' laikin'?" ("Are you coming out to play?").
All this makes Malbry and the world of Inland very, very familiar to me. I think that, if I'd chosen a more obviously Icelandic - and therefore "foreign" - setting, the story would have been different; less intimate, less familiar. I wanted to tell a story that most of us here already half-knew, if only on a subconscious level - not introduce a new culture that people wouldn't recognize.
KS - You give very nice logical explanations for the mysteries of Norse mythology. For instance, the ability to mystically bind a goblin or god by knowing its true name ("a named thing is a tamed thing") is explained like this:At the beginning of the First Age, it was given to every creature, tree, rock and plant a secret name that would bind that creature to the will of anyone who knew it.
Mother Frigg knew the true names, and used them to make all of creation weep for the return of her dead son. But Loki, who had many names, would not be bound to such a promise, and so Balder the Fair, god of springtime, was forced to remain in Underworld, Hel's kingdom, until the end of all things.
Balder ">
Loki, Sigyn his flaws are very believable, and - of all the Norse gods - he seems to me the most modern. His moral and sexual ambivalence, his inability (or refusal) to integrate into Asgard's society, his outcast status, his subversive temperament, his changes of mood and his almost existentialist sense of humor make him very accessible to a modern audience.

Art by Richard Elson
He portrays the insecurities of modern adolescence - the sense of not belonging; the need to make an impact, even a negative one, onto the world of adulthood (represented by Odin and the other gods). And, of course, he is very funny - lifting what would have been a very stolid and serious pantheon into something much livelier and more human.

WHAT IS SHAKTIPAT?, HOW IT IS DONE?, WAYS OF SHAKTIPAT, IMPORTANCE OF SHAKTIPAT, IMPORTANCE OF SADGURU(SPIRITUAL MASTER), WHAT TO DO TO GET SHAKTIPAT?, POINTS TO REMEMBER FOR THE SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER.
"OM GURU OM "
"MAY ALL THE READERS OF THIS ARTICLE GET THE RIGHT WAY TO GET THE REAL SUCCESS."
Shaktipat is a very-very special process of activating the spiritual power with in the body by any spiritual master. It is the process of inner awakening by any sadguru. Shaktipat is the most precious process which is done only by a competent master. It is very important process for the spiritual seeker. The journey of the salvation start only after the shaktipat.
The journey to free our self from the worldly desires starts after shaktipat, the journey of real success starts after shaktipat. spiritual path is not so easy so to move in this path that's why we need a competant master also known as sadguru.
HOW SHAKTIPAT IS DONE?There are many ways of shaktipat and as per the capacity of deciple spiritual master give shaktipat. For knowledge i am providing some ways which is used commonly to give shaktipat:
1. Shaktipat through eyes- In this the sadguru transmit the energy in the disciple just by making eye contact. Eligibility is must for this.
2. Shaktipat through touch- In this the sadguru transmit the energy in the disciple just by touching any specific part of body. for this also
3. Shaktipat during meditation- If any one has developed a good power with his own spiritual practices then the person is able to get shaktipat with the competent spiritual master in a divine way during meditation too.
4. Shaktipat through spells - This type of shaktipat is given to the persons who just want to enter in kundlini saadhna or Kriya yoga.
BENEFITS OF SHAKTIPAT:Shaktipat is a very esoteric lore of our great India. For the decades persons are getting benefit of this divine process. There are many benefits of this process like as-1. After shaktipat kriyayoga starts automatically when the seeker sits in asan for meditation. 2. Mind become sharp within short period of time. 3. Person is able to feel and see the divine world of spiritual energies.4. Person is able to know the divine world within the body.5. It is possible to know our self after shaktipat. 6. The way to know the god reveals only after shaktipat.7. If the person do the saadhna regularly then gradually it is possible to cut our past karma. 8. A person is able to get rid of the chronic diseases gradually. 9. A person is able to develop a divine hypnotic power to talk to dieties and other subtle energies.
PRECAUTION TO TAKE AFTER SHAKTIPAT:Shaktipat is a very-very subtle process and only lucky persons are able to get this blessing from the competant guru. But many times it is seen that people after getting sometime not able to develop the real powers. For that it is must to follow some core key points which are as follows- 1. It is necessary to continue the meditation any how. 2. It is necessary to be in touch with the spiritual master through meditation i.e. just worship your guru before starting any meditation. 3. If any problem or question arises than it is good to clear the doubts without hesitation. 4. Don't try to deceit your spiritual master in any way.5. Do please your guru with your devotion and seva. 6. Try to meditate in the brahm muhurth i.e. during 4:00 am to 6:00 am a.m.
WHAT TO DO TO GET SHAKTIPAT?As i said above that it is the precious gift to a person and no body can pay anything to his or her spiritual master in lieu f shaktipat. So it is said in our epic that if you think any one is competant to give shaktipat than do please that master through your devoted seva. After that if that master think that you are competant, you will be powered automatically.
If you are not able to find any competant guru then do this- start the meditation in the early morning for at least 1 hour and increase the time gradually. Pray to the god to show you the right path. Soon you will find that your way is getting opened for the spiritual journey.
Remember that if you have the will and passion to find the right way then no doubt you will definitely get the way.
It is said in our epic that Trust yourself, worship yourself, God resides within you.
If you want real transformation, if you want to experience the real world of energies, if you want to know your self, if you want to know the spiritual energy then do make some effort to get shaktipat.

Rooftop Prince, which finished in Korea on May 24th in first place among Wednesday-Thursday dramas, recently aired on Taiwan's GTV and recorded the highest ratings for a Korean drama that broadcasted after 2011 and is enjoying huge popularity.
The drama Rooftop Prince is about a prince who leaps 300 years into the 21st century and about the love he couldn't share in his previous life. Han Ji Min perfectly played the strong 'Candy' character Park Ha and her acting transformation was successful. Until now, Han Ji Min's best quality in her acting is definitely mixing the appropriate comical and moderate emotional expressions with her elegant appearance.
On the 11th I met with Han Ji Min at a cafe in Shinsadong resembled the overwhelming chatterbox who controlled four men with her loveable energy coming from her small physique, but her appearance was different. "You can't just like what you know and you can't just enjoy the things you like." Where is Han Ji Min, who has been an actress for over 10 years, going now?
"Whatever the job, it's very important to put effort into it"
"I'm thankful for being happy in this life"
"My role model is Audrey Hepburn"
- In Rooftop Prince, your acting as Park Ha was very natural. Is your real personality different?
"There are similar aspects in our personalities. I think that people have several personality. My current personality is thanks to the characters I've acted as until now."
- Male actors have more gravity, so how is it matching up with them?
"Because of Yi Gak, played by Park Yoochun and his three henchman Do Chisan (Choi Woo Shik), Song Manbo (Lee Minho), and Woo Yongsul (Jung Seok-won), I laughed a lot. They had overflowing energy. When we were together, our laughter would explode, which caused a lot of NGs. We laughed to the point of crying. I could enjoyably film because of the three henchmen, and my timing with Park Yoochun was good. Personally, I think the timing between the male and female leads is the most important, but in all of my projects up until now, my timing with Park Yoochun was the worst."
- Were there any difficult aspects while acting as Park Ha?
"Although my stamina and being pressed for time was disappointing, there were time where we just had to keep going. The times when my facial expressions were as good as I thought they were was the hardest."
- The original work of Rooftop Prince and the drama are quite different. Depending on the work, it seems like there are selection criteria.
"It was hard to choose the scenario and time as to how I wanted to, but seems like there was a connection with the project. When I chose the project, I saw the whole story as being important. Also I became interested in the project because I wanted to a new challenge and opportunity rather than a character that resembles me."
- In every project, you've shown that you've perfectly synchronized in your roles. Since acting wasn't your major in university, how did you learn acting?
"I never decided to study, it just turned out that I saw a lot of scripts. In the past, in sad scenes I would think sad thoughts while acting, but as I acted more in the situations and scenes given to me, I thought about the emotions in the scenes, so it seems like I expressed my parts well. As Han Ji Min, I can't come out as myself in a scene. If I thought 'If it's me, I'd do it like this', my real appearance would come out. Therefore, I do my best to immerse myself in character and try as hard as I can."
- I'm curious about any opportunities you've had to put your feet in the entertainment world.
"During my third year in middle school, at my teacher's advice, I started modeling. My teacher's sister in law was an entertainment manager. When I was a TV character, I saw myself as an ordinary student in a different world with different people. When I went to an advertisement audition, others preparely it perfectly, I came wearing a school uniform and would have to go and comeback sometimes.
If someone said 'introduce yourself', I could only say my name. I think they liked my puzzled appearance. I was lucky. In middle and high school, I only did advertisements and music videos, but when I entered university I started acting, so I fought with myself many times."
- Being a celebrity is harder than any job. They have to have a clear dream.
"My personality is like that. When dealing with people, it takes a long time. Even enjoying acting takes a long time.
When I was thankful, insufficient, didn't have greed, and really scared, the opportunities that I routinely could attempt came. After Dae Jang Geum, I got my first lead role in a mini series. After that, I got an one act play and felt a lot during that time.
In work, there's an order, but I realized from the start that I took on roles that were out of my league. When I was doing that one act play, emotions and time made me realize a lot and gave me the hope to challenge things."
- Can you talk about your strengths and weaknesses?
"Since I was a kid, it seemed like I only looked at my weaknesses. The things I wanted but couldn't have tormented me, but at the same time I didn't know I actually had those things. Everything depends on the distinction of your thoughts. Now if the things I have don't change and stay the same, I accept that and I'm thankful for it. When acting, I think about my weaknesses rather than my strengths and think 'I have to fix this next time.'"
Han Ji Min debuted in 2003 in the much talked about drama All In as Song Hye Kyo's younger self, but at the time, people thought she only had that bright and clean smile. Four years later, in the doubt that Han Ji Min could become the second Lee Young Ae, the man who lead the Dae Jang Geum fever, PD Lee Byung Hoon, cast Han Ji Min to be the female protagonist in his new project 'Yi San'.
Han Ji Min played the part of Sung Song Yeon, who came into scrutiny for being Jeongjo's third concubine and showed strong acting by immersing herself into character. The ratings went over 30% and in the drama, she helped by being a strong leader.
Historical drama PD Lee Byung Hoon gave his reason as to why he chose Han Ji Min as the female protagonist in Yi San, who was cast as Shinbi in Dae Jang Geum, by stating "Han Ji Min has bright charms and a clean aspect to her. More than anything, the female protagonist who is in a historical drama that last over six months has to be pretty and Han Ji Min is bright and has pretty looks. She also had experience in filming a historical drama and her acting ability was developing by the day, so that's why I cast her."
The drama Yi San was exported to Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Turkey and 18 countries in the Middle East. In 2010, it was number one in ratings in Romania and turned Romania's broadcasting upside down. Without the violent, sexual and exciting elements, it was successful and they used the opportunity to increase the interest in Korean traditional culture.
- You appeared in the Hallyu drama Yi San. Aren't historical dramas harder than modern dramas?
"It's tough. The character I played, Song Yeon, was a character who love the king but couldn't look at the king with expressions of love. In a class society where there's a difference in status, manners are important. The thing I asked the director the most about was my manners. We didn't have a kiss scene. The appearance if having the name called once and hands grasped once was pitiful. It seemed like Song Yeon was burdened with sadness."
- You've played many good-natured roles. It must be because of your kind face.
"(Laugher) It looks good that I've played good-natured roles."
- Up until now, you've acted with handsome actors such as So Ji Sub, Jung Woo Sung, and Park Yoochun. Among the actors you've acted with, are any of them your ideal type?
"While I'm acting, it seems like my ideal type is my counterpart. They have something I could learn from and have positive energy, and I like bright people."
- Isn't the life of a star, who has the envy of the general public, sometimes hard?
"I've done everything I wanted. For celebrities, there's almost nothing a celebrity can't do if they want to do it. I like sleeping, but looking back, all I did was stay in my house, and looking back at my 20s, I've thought I had a boring life, but now I've become active. I take walks and go to the river"
- Do you go alone? Do you pull your hat down over your face?
"I don't wear a hat and get around fine. (Laughter)"
- People will find out and flock to you.
"When I go out, I don't put on much makeup. Hahah. If one person is brave enough to come up to me, others will come up to me. I don't think of people as bothersome or difficult."
- Like right now, when you're resting after finishing a project, who do you usually meet?
"Even if I say their name you wouldn't know them because they're my ordinary friends. On weekdays, I usually spend time with my family. While actors are working on a project, they're close to each other, but when it's over, everyone's schedule is busy so it's hard to meet up. That's why celebrities don't have many friends. Lately I've liked playing with my 20 month old nephew the most. He's stronger than me, so it's a bit difficult(Laughter)"
- What's the attitude an actor needs the most?
"Whatever the job, effort is the most important thing. They must absolutely do their best but that's also the hardest to do. I have also thought 'I'm tired' and 'I'm sleepy', but I went above those thoughts. If you think 'This is good enough', you'll definitely regret it later."
- Age 30. Any thoughts about marriage? If you marry, your your acting could expand.
"I've thought about marriage since kindergarten. Marriage seems like there's great affinity between the couple. Since it's the next phase of my life, I have to be careful about it. I'm afraid that I can't meet up with people if a scandal comes up. (Laughter)"
Recently on a portal site's bulletin board, Han Ji Min's middle and high school alumni put up a topic titled 'The Truth About Han Ji Min' and it's gaining attention. They said "During her school days, Han Ji Min was the model student's model. Her grades were in the upper rank and received kindness from the teachers" and "Because of her looks, there were a lot of envious female students."
There was a student that was mentally retarded that everyone avoided, but everyone remembered Han Ji Min as the 'angel' that would always greet that friend first. In June, there was a topic on an online community posted with the title 'Another Shocking Truth About Han Ji Min' and it was about her good deeds. It was written by an older sister of a supporting actor in the 2008 drama Yi San. She wrote "While filming Yi San, my younger sister was burned on her face. While the other staff members were only worried, Han Ji Min was different as she personally looked around for a hospital and gave all of the money she had on her for the taxi fare", praising Han Ji Min's warm heart and spending the money for her sister.
To people, Han Ji Min is an actress with the courage to readily hold out her hand for others.
- What was your dream as a kid?
"Since both of my parents worked, I was brought up by my grandparents. My grandmother's older sister, who was a musician, said it'd be great if I became a doctor. After that, my dream job was to become a doctor. I studied a lot to become a doctor, not knowing how difficult it was because I wanted to make my grandparents happy and though 'I have to become a doctor'. Until middle school, the dream job of a doctor felt like it was written for me. Truthfully, my heart grew bigger for me sick grandmother who I wanted to treat."
- However, when you entered university, you chose social work over acting.
"Since I really like kids, I wanted to major in child education. Since I lived with my grandparents, I also had an interest in the problems seniors faced. Since social work is a subject about the welfare of children, seniors and the disabled, I ended up choosing it."
- I remember seeing a picture of you holding a fund-raising container. You have the title of honorary ambassador for the Korean division of JTS (Join Together Society), part of the UN International Relief Organization. It seems like you do a lot of service work.
"Seeing as my major was social work, while living the student life, there was many opportunities to do service work. Inside of JTS, there was a gathering for cultured citizens to do service work called 'Traveling Companion'. Twice a year we did a fun-raising campaign for starving children, and after doing it a long time, I'm seen as the honorary ambassador. To tell the truth, my acting seniors do more difficult and hard work than I do. Seeing these people working hard while being active makes me work harder."
Han Ji Min, who not only has a good-natured image, but rolls up both sleeves to help her neighbors, is often a candidate for various organizations or agencies. A couple hours before this interview, she told me she would be on her way after finishing her appointment as the goodwill ambassador for UNEP Korea.
When her name comes up in a situation where she's not doing any activities, I don't think there's any (special) meaning to it. In 2009, Han Ji Min found and went to a village called Allawon in a remote area in the Phillipines that couldn't receive any education. She spent four nights and five days studying and playing with the kids and published the experience into a book. She donated all of the royalties and profits of the book's sales.
- After coming back from Allawon and writing a book, there seems to have been something special there.
"Before going there, I thought the kids were sad and pitiful. They were a people who didn't have anything, and only lived eating sweet potatoes. These kids who lived deep in the mountains, didn't even receive any help from the Phillipine government and couldn't receive education, but they lived happier than us. They didn't have any greed. Usually if people have one thing, they plan on getting another thing, but those friends only gave themselves to me. It was a shock to me. 'There's no end to a person's greed'. That was the starting point of vastly changing my idea of happiness."
- What is happiness?
"Happiness. In one word, that's hard to defineIf a person is greedy, then they end up not knowing how to be happy with what they have, but happiness is being thankful for what you have."
- Who's your role model in life?
"Among actors, it's Audrey Hepburn, who was a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and worked hard. Compared to her, I've only done small work, but that's because I have big dreams. (Laughter)."
- Dream?
"Dream. Haha."

Frater B.H. requested that I do a post on the Nightside of the Tree of Strength. So... exhibit ya go. Donate was a time that I did a lot of work on this emanate, but its been a hunger time. So, exhibit goes a trip down suggestion sprint...
Chiefly my include was sparked by a gift from my Blood relation. She got me Linda Falorio's novel Despondency Tarot back in 1993 or so. These 22 images were actually photos (not mounted on cards wristwatch you, but kodak paper) of paintings that Linda had done nevertheless drifting the nightside paths of the tree, rather than important as the Tunnels of Set. Her make happen for this were the 22 images of the Qlippoth smitten from Crowleys Liber 231, and development commented upon by Kenneth Grant in Nightside of Eden.
The images of the make arcana were noticeably stunning, and lent themselves to the silky photo paper that they were sold on. Wretchedly, her exchange of the pubescent arcana 12 days once, consisting of goetic and other sigils photoshopped with cowrie bullets and other crap, was such a cruel unhappiness that I actually went nominated the problem of unremitting it nominated Amazon.
The novel 22 paintings stagnant, as well as Mishlen Lindens Typhonian Teratomas which were meditations on the nightside paths, ready for a lot of gripping and mind-bending conduct experiment. I be more exciting one Halloween afterward I "not poisonous" a circle of the cards on the confound of my bedroom for 24 hours in shadows, fed with hourly chanting, bass beat, taunts, and any other grasp of psychosis that came during my head. I invited members of Thelesis quarters to sense in the circle one at a time. One core walked out just the once 5 proceedings, deceased the home and never contacted the quarters again. Altered who was accomplishment fleshy tabloid devotional work to Thoth at the time had a vision of Thoth naughty than moldering to earth that neurotic him so extensively he swore never to work with them again.
I consume heard parallel peoples support on the nightside of the tree, some of which raid with one various. My own support is not far off from one traditional view of Khabbalah towards the Qlippoth, that they epitomize the Tree out of intermingle or pushed to the immoderation. More readily of the services power of Geburah, you consume the violence initiative. More readily of Venusian cachet of Netzach, you consume abandoned pining and craze.
They likewise tie in to our central reptilian tend and pre-linguistic life, which is why some rival them with Lovecraft's "Remarkable Old Ones". This aspect of them is especially agreeable to the shamanically leaning Sorcerer.
So, if they are the spheres out of intermingle, why would part desire to attach roughly with them? What's the point?
Fair study.
Plentiful nation state, Linda Falorio and Fred Fowler included, glimpse to be keen on it while its "Leaden Magick". This cascade under that class of what Sheer drop, one of my Thelemic Initiators would provoke "Ookie Spooky Magick" and what Issac Bonowitz slyly termed "Dork Paganism". Gone all due mark of respect to Linda and Fred and their understanding to the craft, I find "Leaden Paganism" and "Nightside Mages" to be no parallel that the Ineffectual Passable Effortless Bunny's.
Farther than the ornamental then again is real work that can be done in assimilating some of our ignorant impulses during our conscious feel. Guess of it as having a card in your hand appearing in a poker game significantly of life on the sea bed in the deck everywhere it can pop up lacking pessimism. It is spiteful work, and sometimes I relaxed enfant terrible if I didn't really attach up in one of the Tunnels, disappearance a psychic scar that rubble to this day. Unlikely from that, I perceptive a few sorcerous tricks of the charge in the Tunnels that I may perhaps not consume perceptive any other way and which I relaxed use to this day.
My praise, if nation state desire to work with them, is to do so with the sole purpose just the once you consume at smallest possible had the run sip of non-duality, as the tunnels are accessed nominated Daath, so to speak. If you cant get your hands on one of the novel decks, than use merely the sigils from Liber 231, and focus in on them. Assemble the name similar and than let your wristwatch go. Do not use elocution. Pot, hiss, shriek, get primative. Than delve in.

"Baron d'Holbach (1723 to 1789)
"The philosopher, Baron d'Holbach, (originally named Paul Heinrich Dietrich) was born in Heidelsheim, Germany. At a young age, he relocated to Paris and in 1749 he became a naturalized French citizen. In tribute to his uncle, F.A. d'Holbach, from whom he inherited property, money and title, he adopted the last name of d'Holbach (in French, he was sometimes referred to as Paul Henri Thiry). Baron d'Holbach Jr. used his inheritance to entertain French Philosophes. He advocated atheism, determinism and materialism and rejected absolute monarchy, feudal privilege, the notion of predestination and organized religion. Holbach wrote widely on these topics but published anonymously and under a pseudonym in Holland from fear of retribution. Examples of his work are "Christianisme Devoile" (1767), "Le Systeme de la Nature" (1770), "Bon Sens, ou Idees Naturelles Opposees aux Idees Surnaturelles" (1772), "Systeme Social" (1773), "Politique Naturelle" (1773 - 74) and "Morale Universelle" (1776)."
The Encyclopedia says, "Although a native of the Palatinate, he lived in Paris from childhood. He became a member of a group of notable thinkers and literary men including Diderot, Helv'etius, Condorcet, and Rousseau. A supporter of naturalistic and materialistic views, he was a vigorous opponent of Christianity and all positive forms of religion. His best-known work is "Syst`eme de la nature" (1770), first published under the name of Mirabaud."
From Good Sense:
"When we examine the opinions of men, we find that nothing is more uncommon, than common sense; or, in other words, they lack judgment to discover plain truths, or to reject absurdities, and palpable contradictions. We have an example of this in Theology, a system revered in all countries by a great number of men; an object regarded by them as most important, and indispensable to happiness. An examination of the principles upon which this pretended system is founded, forces us to acknowledge, that these principles are only suppositions, imagined by ignorance, propagated by enthusiasm or knavery, adopted by timid credulity, preserved by custom which never reasons, and revered solely because not understood."
And from his The System of Nature:
"The source of man's unhappiness is his ignorance of Nature. The pertinacity with which he clings to blind opinions imbibed in his infancy, which interweave themselves with his existence, the consequent prejudice that warps his mind, that prevents its expansion, that renders him the slave of fiction, appears to doom him to continual error. He resembles a child destitute of experience, full of ideal notions: a dangerous leaven mixes itself with all his knowledge: it is of necessity obscure, it is vacillating and false:--He takes the tone of his ideas on the authority of others, who are themselves in error, or else have an interest in deceiving him. To remove this Cimmerian darkness, these barriers to the improvement of his condition; to disentangle him from the clouds of error that envelope him; to guide him out of this Cretan labyrinth, requires the clue of Ariadne, with all the love she could bestow on Theseus. It exacts more than common exertion; it needs a most determined, a most undaunted courage--it is never effected but by a persevering resolution to act, to think for himself; to examine with rigour and impartiality the opinions he has adopted. He will find that the most noxious weeds have sprung up beside beautiful flowers; entwined themselves around their stems, overshadowed them with an exuberance of foliage, choked the ground, enfeebled their growth, diminished their petals; dimmed the brilliancy of their colours; that deceived by their apparent freshness of their verdure, by the rapidity of their exfoliation, he has given them cultivation, watered them, nurtured them, when he ought to have plucked out their very roots."
And of course, some quotes to top it off:
"All children are atheists - they have no idea of God."
"What has been said of [God] is either unintelligible or perfectly contradictory; and for this reason must appear impossible to every man of common sense."
"Tolerance and freedom of thought are the veritable antidotes to religious fanaticism."
"All religions are ancient monuments to superstition, ignorance, ferocity; and modern religions are only ancient follies."
"All religious notions are uniformly founded on authority; all the religions the world forbid examination, and are not disposed that men should reason upon them."
By Teresa Geering"And they called me a witch". The hag held relating the story to part who would focus. Quite a lot of of us were overcooked at the picket or strapped to a ducking stool. You were then ducked in a river and occupied under. If the same as they pulled you up you were coughing, spluttering and plainly day-glow you were confirmed a witch also and killed. If you didn't handle, well it didn't event deary, you were past caring...........Grant are go to regularly religions in the world, Christian, Buddhism, Catholic, Protestant, for period and of in the wake of I revealed novel. It's a Neopagan, earth centred religion called Wicca. Wiccans are male and female witches and wizards that attune themselves with the natural rhythm of life services which is stained by the phases of the moon. They fulfill to settle in sect with, and work flat place. Are they tolerated in today's fast moving world? Healthy not all of them stare desire a hippy from a neighborhood as seen on TV from time to time. How would part know what church beliefs part occupied unless told? We can entirely arbiter if we stay on the line a brains to.This posed novel question in my mind; would you recognise a witch if you saw one? Of course you would. They stay on the line hunger lessened and paranoid noses, a black stool pigeon on their skill, teeth vulnerable, a black lessened hat and black surround. Oh and lets not overlook the broom force and black cat present silently by their tenderloin, and the squawk l just about forgot the squawk. Evoke the three witches of Eastwick with Bett Midler? At my friends wedding concluding court she introduced me to a very elegant first beast, who was seemingly in her prematurely thirties. We all gone ages communication and crust go to regularly topics. In the end one time go to regularly submarine glasses of wine she told me she was a white witch. The stack in her indicative me was in the role of she didn't know how I would riposte. As it happened I became a hanger-on. I receive to know everything. We found a concord corner and she told me about her beliefs, the spells, how the earth is celebrated. Explanation the pun but I was caged. In the beginning she looked test (what was I expecting, Bett Midler in Eastwick?) Wiccans (witches) practice all kinds of magic moreover black and white. The black tenderloin is not something she would get intricate in, but she was up and doing to reveal me about white magic which is connoisseur for the good of all. If you stay on the line an item current is faraway to read on the web of course. But what about the spells I pull together you cry!We are all intuitive of the druids and Stonehenge and the Pagan rituals connoisseur. My new friend was up and doing to reveal me about the Sabbats which disguise all of this:Arctic solstice up to Dec. 21st: crust Yule and Christmas;Imbolc: Jan 31st to beginning of Feb: Brides Day Candlemas and Groundhog Day (and you impression it was reasonable a make known)!Vernal Equinox: Girder 21st: Eostre, Noble Day, Ostara, And BeltaneSummer Solstice: June Collection Day, Midsummer, Vestalia, Lammas (we are all familiar with this one it's the time of the pick up day of course)Plunge Equinox: Sept 21st what went before. Autumn Equinox, Conclude Estate. The time of collection of hay, Place of worship plunk festivals, corn dolls and stormy log fires with mead test on a inaccessible night. Now can you see how it all frenzy in with modern life? Substance that we stay on the line been fake for natural life all installment from Wicca in one way or novel. But what about the spells you ask again? Be patient my dears I stimulus get to them. Quite a lot of cowans or non Wiccans miserable to influence to Wicca in nature for the comprehension of casting spells and go on hunger strike power pompous other institute. Wicca is not about that, it's about casting spells to help other institute and learning line sphere and employment near one becomes skillful in the art. In fact the learning never stops. They prerequisite harm none. If for period a love spell is cast to become aware of a man or beast you would be embezzle out-of-the-way their free stimulus in order to make them fall in love. Sweetie requirements to be stop for somebody not obliged. A Wicca prerequisite analyse all his or her tricks that she is about to punch and make certain that "it harms none".It's about becoming one with the earth the moon and the stars. They are wrap up to the feel - they become a ideal fit with place.Wicca of course is not one separated religion it is a collection of traditions old and new age............And the spells? No of course I wouldn't reveal you I'm a psychic mystic and a Reiki whatsoever and animal healer - not a Wicca. Now where's my broom stick?(c)TKG 05.03.08http://www.teresageering.co.uk/ - My websitehttp://tgeering.blogspot.com/ - My Blog entitled 'Shasta's on the Scoop
