Pirate101 First Look Tower Of Moo Manchu

Pirate101 First Look Tower Of Moo Manchu
PIRATE101 FIRST LOOK: TOWER OF MOO MANCHU

The latest update is here (or at least in the test realm), and with it comes a new dungeon to challenge pirates of all classes! The dungeon is located in the Paths of Penance in Mooshu. In order to enter it, players need to have completed Mooshu AND the original set of Moo Manchu sidequests (up through the Tomb of Kow Cheng). Once you have, speak to Lord Chagatai in Subata Temple to obtain the quest The Shadow Of Moo Manchu.

We've run the dungeon a few times, and what follows is what we know so far. Warning: This dungeon is neither short nor easy. It took us 3 hours to complete the first time through - the first half with 4 pirates, the second half with 3. Fewer pirates can actually make the early levels go faster, but will make the last few levels (much) more difficult. Even the normal "mobs" are a cut above the usual, with more (and sometimes special) powers/talents, as well as other enhancements. For instance, enemy witchdoctors and musketeers all seem to have at least a range of 5.

Note: Our information was obtained with max level (65) pirates. It is possible that using lower level pirates translates into lower level opponents. If you experience something different, let us know!

FIRST FLOOR

A normal fight against a level 55 "Mob", although it seems that there are at most 8 enemy (don't worry, it gets more difficult). Opponents:

Pig Axeman [Buccaneer] - Pirate, Relentless, Blade Storm, Turn the Tide 2, Veng Strike 2

Pig Thug [Swashbuckler] - Pirate, Blade Storm, Flanking 2, Cheap Shot

Pig Crossbowman [Musketeer] - Pirate, Burst Fire, Double Tap, Overwatch 2

Pig Necromancer [Witchdoctor] - Pirate, Jobu's Ruse 2, Mojo Rising, Coward's Bane

Looks Dangerous. You Go First.

SECOND FLOOR

The floor is littered with spike traps (as in the Metal Temple). All the same Level 55 opponents as the first floor, plus:

Pig Axe Master [Buccaneer] - adds Relentless 2 talent

Master Pig Crossbowman [Musketeer] - adds True Grit talent

Master Pig Necromancer [Witchdoctor] - adds Mojo Storm power

Pig Pikeman [Privateer] - Pirate, Blade Storm, Hold the Line 2, Repel Boarders

THIRD FLOOR

This time there are some suspicious looking statues, which if broken, turn into Corrupted Foo Lions. Warning: if you have a pet with an area attack, they can accidentally break the statues (bad dillo!). Also, summoned minions can hit the statues if they don't have anything better to do (like when all the remaining enemy have gone hidden at the end of the turn). The enemies seem to be a few levels higher (56-58) than the first two floors, and have added:

Master Pig Pikeman [Privateer] - adds First Strike talent

Pig Tetsubo Master [Swashbuckler] - adds Riposte talent

Corrupted Foo Lion [Swashbuckler] - Cheap Shot 2, Blade Storm, Flanking, Sneaky Sneaky (may hide at end of each turn)

Pigs + Fire = Bad

FOURTH FLOOR

After finally having our first pleasant chat with Moo Manchu himself, we face yet another pig mob - this one at Level 60 - only this time the floor is on fire. The "flames of corruption" start in the corners, spread one square in each direction per turn, and it is nasty stuff. The damage it does is only a percentage of your remaining health (good), but it also "splashes" onto everyone standing next to you, regardless of whether you move or stand still (bad). Worst of all, you can't see through it (terrible for Musketeers and Witchdoctors). Best to get this fight over with as quickly as possible!

There is a balcony accessible from the fourth floor that has two 2 lock chests containing doubloons.

Now If I Could Just Clone Myself

There is an extra Boss Plunder Chest between the fourth and fifth floors, but it always requires 4 pirates to open. This chest contains level 70 and 75 doubloons!

FIFTH FLOOR

Yum (phew!).

SIXTH FLOOR

No more pigs! A Level 63 mob of:

Corrupted Ki-Rin [Privateer] - Riposte 2, Blade Storm, Second Chance

Ancient Corrupted Ki-Rin [Privateer] - adds Bloodsucker talent

Corrupted Dragon [Privateer] - Vengeance Strike 2, Blade Storm, Witch Hunter

Ancient Corrupted Dragon [Privateer] - adds Scent talent (can "unhide" enemy units)

Corrupted Foo Lion [Swashbuckler] - Cheap Shot 2, Blade Storm, Flanking, Sneaky Sneaky

Ancient Corrupted Foo Lion [Swashbuckler] - adds Sneaky Sneaky 2 (sneakier!)

SEVENTH FLOOR

A Level 64 mob:

Corrupted Samoorai Archer [Musketeer] - Quick Adjust 2, Double Tap, True Grit 2

Corrupted Samoorai Musketeer [Musketeer] - Double Tap 2, Burst Fire 2, Overwatch 2, Crossfire

Corrupted Ronin [Swashbuckler] - First Strike 2, Blade Storm, Riposte 2, Relentless

Six Versus Five

EIGHTH FLOOR

Don't drink the elixir! You face five Level 65 opponents, one from each pirate class, and have only your first mate as a companion. They have 4000-5000 health each, and seem to have all the normal powers and talents you would expect from each class at that level, plus a few extra Flanking/Burst Fire/Jobu's Ruse/whatever talents thrown in, plus something extra:

The Nefarious Five (special Talents)

Disloyal Lynne Finkle [Witchdoctor] - Soul Harvest 2

Ignoble Jonathan Ashburn [Swashbuckler] - Soul Shroud

Unreliable Benjamin Wright [Musketeer] - none

Faithless Josef Hawkins [Buccaneer] - Flames of Corruption

Insensitive Faye Jennings [Privateer] - Charming Gaze 2

Soul Shroud: Whenever the holder of this talent falls below 50% health, if attacked, they will immediately execute a Jobu's Kiss counterattack on a single adjacent enemy unit (deal damage, and reclaim half that damage as health). This counterattack will cause Witch Hunter to trigger if the enemy unit has it. Like all other talents, level one of Soul Shroud will only trigger once per turn.

Charming Gaze 2: May Charm an enemy unit that moves adjacent. It seems that level 2 of this talent causes the enemy unit to be charmed for multiple turns (as opposed to charming multiple units).

{Note: At this point, we aren't really sure how Soul Harvest or Flames of Corruption work.}

There is a balcony accessible from the eighth floor that has two 2 lock chests containing doubloons.

Extra Boss Plunder Chest between eighth and ninth floors (requires 4 pirates to open). This chest contains level 70 and 75 doubloons!

NINTH FLOOR

A whole pile of Level 65 Terror-Cotta Warriors. Not only do these guys have a special Brutal Charge attack (with its five turn 50% accuracy debuff) and know Leviathan's Call, but they are also explosive - defeat one and they damage everyone around them.

Terror-cotta Warriors [Buccaneer] - Turn the Tide 2, Hold the Line 3, Blade Storm, Cheap Shot, Brutal Charge, Leviathan's Call, Explosive

The Final Battle

TENTH FLOOR

At last, Moo Manchu himself! Not surprisingly, he cheats. It seems like he attacks in 3 turn cycles: first an ice attack which freezes all opponents in place for the turn, then a fire attack which damages all opponents (and leaves smoke behind), then a turn without an attack. But we haven't hung around long enough to see if this pattern holds :-). There are also statues that attack for a small amount of damage every time you move next to them.

Moo Manchu [Witchdoctor] - Mojo Echo 2, Imp Mojo Blast 2, Readied Spell, Coward's Bane

Corrupted Champion [Buccaneer] - Turn the Tide 2, Blade Storm, Veng Strike 2, Hold the Line 2, Soul Harvest

Terror-cotta Warriors [Buccaneer] - Turn the Tide 2, Hold the Line 3, Blade Storm, Cheap Shot, Brutal Charge, Leviathan's Call, Explosive

Finally, a word about loot. Obviously we haven't run the dungeon enough yet to say much about the offerings, but there is quite a bit, both gold and gear. The gear all seems to be level 55+, with level 55 gear on the lower floors and level 60-65 gear on the upper ones. The most significant thing about the gear is that most of it has powers, and yet is not either class specific or no auction/no trade. So most things you pick up can be used by any class of pirate. Those pieces of gear that are no auction/no trade are extra special, for instance:

Normal Loot

Special Loot

Moo Manchu also drops a new wardrobe! (Apparently he has changed his clothes since the last time we saw him).

Thanks to Virtuous Dante Ramsey for posing in his new outfit!

Below are the stats on the new gear.

Let us know what you think of the new dungeon!
