"When you are practicing zazen, do not try to stop your thinking. Let it stop by itself. If something comes into your mind, let it come in, and let it go out. It will not stay long. When you try to stop your thinking, it means you are bothered by it. Do not be bothered by anything. It appears as if something comes from outside your mind, but actually it is only the waves of your mind, and if you are not bothered by the waves, gradually they will become calmer and calmer. Actually they are the same thing, but the understanding is different, and your attitude towards your life will be different according to which understanding you have.

That everything is included within your mind is the essence of mind. To experience this is to have religious feeling. Even though waves arise, the essence of your mind is pure; it is just like clear water with a few waves. Actually water always has waves. Waves are the practice of the water.. To speak of waves apart from water or water apart from waves is a delusion. Water and waves are one. Big mind and small mind are one. When you understand your mind in this way, you have some security in your feeling. As your mind does not expect anything from outside, it is always filled. A mind with waves in it is not a disturbed mind, but actually an amplified one. Whatever you experience is an expression of big mind.

A Jesuit And The Egyptian Coptic Christians

The Superior of the Monastery, having been notified of our arrival, came to receive us with great demonstrations of friendship. He first conducted us to the Church of the Holy Virgin, to perform our devotions. It having struck twelve, the monks, as well as ourselves, were still fasting. They were then in the Fast which precedes Christmas. During this Fast, as well as in the others, of the Apostles, and of the Holy Virgin, and of that which precedes the Festival of Easter, they neither eat nor drink any thing until afternoon, except on Saturdays and Sundays, when they are allowed to take some nourishment in the morning. I thought it necessary to conform entirely to their manner of living, for the purpose of gaining their confidence and attachment. This I did, and found the benefit of it ; for the conformity of my life to theirs dissipated that natural distrust which the monks and strange priests entertain, and by degrees I found myself enabled to speak with them on all their spiritual needs, as soon as I learned them.Our prayers having been finished, they conducted me to the Refectory. The Benedicite having been said, they served to us a large bowl filled with soup, made from lentils, stuffed with bread. This single dish comprised all our meal. While we were at table, there was a reading, which was composed of a little collection of monastic rules, which they pretended were given by the Holy Virgin to Saint Macarius the Younger. The meal being finished, we said the Pater in Coptic. This prayer alone is their Benedicite and their ordinary grace. All having left the Refectory, those who were thirsty went to drink from the bucket of one of the neighboring wells. I saw in their kitchen three large stone pots, which are all the cooking utensils they have. They answer the purpose very well, and last for ages. This kind of stone is called baram, and is common in Upper Egypt. Since we are speaking of the grand meals of these good monks, I will add, that, in the evening, they served up as a collation for us a little plate of wild marjoram pounded up, and another of the skins of sugar-cane, which was very insipid. They gave also sometimes, to vary their collation, onions, cut up or steeped in salt water. The odor of this is detestable to those not accustomed to it. They never drink wine, and rarely coffee.They lie down entirely clothed, their bed being formed of the mats spread on the floor. We must acknowledge that the life of these good monks is very frugal and austere; but the remarkable fact is that they are strong and robust, large and fat, and full of health. In thinking of the austerity of their life, I could not but deplore their misfortune in being born in schism and heresy, in which they are passing their lives. At the same time I compare their hard and mortified manner of life with that of a great number of Catholics, who, so thoroughly enlightened lightened that they are the luminaries of the faith, nevertheless pass their lives in continual softness, so contrary to the spirit of the Gospel, which is our only rule of action. I do not know which is the greatest evil, that of those or of these.

Golden Dawn Community Invokes Magic To Help Haiti

Frater and Sorors, and friends of the Golden Dawn,

Our Order and most other G.D. Orders that I am familiar with have always maintained that working to improve the self iMPROVES THE WORLD, and working to improve our world IMPROVES THE SELF. It is a simple belief that finds root in various mystery schools and in a variety of modern day mystics, which include, McGregor Mathers who drove an ambulance during WWI. He was concerned about the wounded, that they were not getting the care they deserved. He gave of his time and his magic. WORD HAS IT THAT HE WAS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HEALING THE WOUNDED.

Then there is the Dali Lama who while exiled from his own land, and having seen persecution and murder against his people continues to spread peace and light throughout the world. HE HAS NEVER UTTERED A NEGATIVE STATEMENT AGAINST ANYONE.

Who could forget the spiritual power of Nelson Mandela,who after being a prisoner for 27 years for his beliefs in human rights never wanted revenge when he was freed, rather he called for peace. This man while not a Golden Dawn practioner could teach us all about humility and Light.

The world was so blessed to have a Mother Theresa who devoted her life to the poor and the dying. I having seen her home, and having helped in her facilities in Calcutta India, can testify that she certainly was connected to the spiritual juice of our planet.

NOW WE HAVE A CRISIS IN HAITI. Most of us cannot get on a plane and go over there and volunteer our hearts and our bodies. What we as the Golden Dawn community can do is begin invoking the Magic of Light to bring comfort, stability to the earth so as not to have more after shocks and quakes, stability to the government so as to not have up risings. WE CAN INVOKE FORCES OF LIGHT TO BRING ABOUT ACTION FASTER FROM WORLD GOVERNMENTS AND ALL THOSE WILLING TO GIVE AID.

Whatever your magical level, work within it, and give some of your time to Haiti this week. THE MAGIC OF LIGHT IS ALWAYS MORE POWERFUL WHEN IT IS GIVEN FREELY AND WITH UNIVERSAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

He Speaks At She Speaks

"Proverbs 31 Ministries' She Speaks" conference usually turns out to be one of the spiritual highlights for me annually, and this year is no exception. I can only say that gathering with 650 like-minded, Jesus loving women creates a glorious synergy unlike anything I've experienced. This week I'm participating in Kelly Combs' "She Speaks" meme answering questions about the event and what I learned. You can participate or read other women's answers At Kelly's Blog.1. WHAT WAS THE BEST ADVICE YOU GOT AT SHE SPEAKS? On Thursday evening I sat with Robin Phillips, an editor with Zondervan, during dinner. Each of the eight women at our table introduced themselves and shared a bit about what they did. When my turn came, I guess my discomfort about becoming an author showed, and Robin waved her hand in front of me and said, "Own it, girl!" God really used her words to show me that I need to embrace His gift and the process of becoming an author, instead of feeling awkward or unworthy. As Robin told me later, "You've signed a contract and you're writing a book, and that's a good thing." Thanks, Robin! WHATEVER GIFT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU, SWEET BLOGGING FRIENDS, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO EMBRACE AND OWN IT! 2. WHAT WAS THE BEST LESSON YOU LEARNED IN A SESSION? Emily Freeman shared a powerful insight that made me think of the gift God has given me in an entirely new way. "Shouldn't we respect the gift (of writing) God has given us as much as we would respect the gift of being a doctor or a lawyer?" I immediately realized that I've wrestled with reluctance, fear and doubt over becoming an author and while some of that is natural--as transitions cause these issues to rise to the surface of our hearts--it never occurred to me to respect the gift. This places the precious gift of communication He has given me in a new, holy light. WHEN WE RESPECT THE GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN US, WE HONOR HIM AND WE USE THE GIFTS WISELY. 3. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU LEARNED/WHAT IS YOUR NEXT GOAL? I'm determined to practically walk out owning, embracing, and respecting the gift the Lord has entrusted to me. This means I will not allow fear, doubt or reluctance to hinder me. Practically, this means I will pray every single time I sense any of those feelings imposing themselves on my heart, and I will engage in positive, scripture-laden self-talk. I also intend to establish a daily schedule which maximizes my writing time. IT'S ONE THING TO RECEIVE A GIFT, BUT IT'S OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO EMBRACE AND NURTURE OUR GIFTS SO THAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH OUR GOD-GIVEN DESTINIES AND BRING HIM GLORY.4. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE? (GOOD, BAD, OR UGLY?) I arrived at the conference Thursday afternoon and was met at the airport by long-time blogging friend Bonita Lillie, who blessed my socks off with her sweet offer for a ride, her precious, calm disposition, and her touching prayer for me in my hotel room that covered everything in my heart. By Thursday night, I'd already experienced four divine appointments, including two powerful prayer sessions, and the weekend was just getting started. I helped Glynnis Whitwer take care of a million details for conference publishing guests, hung out with my roomie, Leslie, met Rachelle Gardner, and met tons of Twitter and blogging friends, like her and her and her and many, many more--far too many to include here. What a joy! But mostly, I met with Jesus. He is front and center at She Speaks. Because at She Speaks, He truly speaks. And that, my friends, is what it's all about.

These verses hold two memories for me - one was some 20 years ago when I went to a Saturday night meeting feeling far from the Lord and not even sure that night whether I'd go to heaven or not. At the meeting while in prayer I asked the Lord that very question "will I be in heaven Lord"? A man some rows behind started to sing in the spirit "In my father's house are many mansions, in my father's house are many rooms, if it were not so I would have told you, I will go away and come again" What an answer. I have not heard that sung since nor had I heard it before that night.

My second memory is when I read this passage at my dad's funeral, Mam had asked me to say something after Dad died and to be honest I could have written a book about my Dad but I went to another book, The Bible and after a lot of prayer vs 1-6 are what I believed the Lord wanted me to talk about.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I can see much of God's goodness and mercy in these verses. Despite my sinful nature my Lord died for me and even prepares a mansion for me - no 2 up 2 down, no flat or maisonette, no bungalow, terrace, semi or detached house but a mansion.

Endless and bountiful provision even at the last day. To be with Lord is going to be far better than anything this life has to offer.

Despite my failings, my fearfulness, my Lord is providing a home for me, eternal in the heavens, where I will dwell with him, free from all pain, stress, fear - what a wonderful Father who provides for his children.

Those who know our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I am sure will say an Amen to that.

If you do not know the bountiful provision of a loving heavenly Father, the sacrificial love that sent a beloved son into a darkened world, to be the light of that world and who died a cruel death, nailed to a cross at Calvary to pay the price for our sin then my prayer is that you would read the Holy scriptures to see who and what this man did.

The Lord Jesus Christ opened up a way for us to be reconciled to God the Father, by dying in our place. He is the light of the world. His words "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me" are as true today as they were 2000 years ago. He asks only that you repent of your sin and follow him. I would ask you to do that today.

Soyolmaa Davaakhuu Amazing Mongolian Woman Artist

Recently I was looking around for images of the Hindu/Buddhist Goddess Kurukulla, and I came upon the website of the amazing Mongolian artist Soyolmaa Davaakhuu. Wow.

Prints of her gorgeous paintings are available for sale at her ImageKind website (linked to above). In addition, she has also published a book, Deep Knowing: A Woman's Journey in the Buddha Dharma Reflected in the Art of Soyolmaa Davaakhuu. (Scroll down to see a 6 minute video based on the book.)

Soyolma Davaakhuu's parents were prominent artists under the Communist regime, who managed to keep their Mongolian cultural and Buddhist art heritage alive to pass on to their talented daughter. Soyolma attended the Ulaan Baatar Fine Arts College and the University of Arts and Culture in Ulaan Baatar, both of which she graduated with honors. She has worked as a professional artist since her graduation in 1998 and has participated in dozens of exhibitions in Mongolia and abroad.

In 2008, Soyolma was named Female Artist of the Year by the Union of Mongolian Artists. The award is especially coveted because the recipient is chosen by the greatest artists in the country.

Soyolma is known for her eclectic approach which includes the traditional Mongolian Buddhist arts such as thangka painting, embroidery, appliqu'e, temple dance masks and costumes, etc., to contemporary urban expressionism.

Her work, from traditional to surreal, is always transformative, exploring themes of dreaming and awakening, the hidden and revealed, and more often than not, celebrates enlightenment manifest in feminine form.

And here is the description of the Goddess Kurkulla, also taken from the website (here is a link directly to the painting "Woman of Power", depicting the Goddess): Kurukulle (Kurukulla) is translated in Tibetan as Rigiyedma meaning "She who is the cause of Knowledge". She is also sometimes called Red Tara. She symbolizes desireless desire and the ability to achieve goals without attachment to outcomes. Her bow symbolizes the aiming for a goal and letting go. She is very popular in Tibetan folk magic as she is pre-eminently the Buddhist deity of enchantment and has the ability to bewitch other beings. Kurukulle may be called upon to exercise her powers of enchantment and bewitchment to subjugate evil spirits, demon and humans working against the welfare of humanity and spiritual evolution. She is often called upon at new beginnings such as the building of monastery, starting a business or other venture to subdue all forces that stands in the way. She represents empowerment of the feminine in a patriarchal milieu.
