Mayday Mayday Happy Birthday Illuminati

Mayday Mayday Happy Birthday Illuminati
1'st of May. Let's give some more power to the Illuminati!

Adam Weishaupt ( February 6, 1748 - November 18, 1811) was the German founder of the Order of the Illuminati.

Audio excerpts from: The Lightbringers - The Emissaries of Jahbulon by J"uri Lina

He was born and raised in Ingolstadt, where he attained the rank of Professor of Canon Law in 1772. Though he was educated by Jesuits and was clearly influenced by the discretion, loyalty and the hierarchic obedience of the Society of Jesus and was for a time a member of their order, his appointment as Professor of Natural and Canon Law at the University of Ingoldstadt in 1775 offended them. He broke with them and became increasingly liberal in his religious and political views, favoring deism and a kind of millennial natural order that swept aside states and organized religion.

With the help of Baron Adolph von Knigge, on May 1, 1776 Weishaupt formed the "Order of Perfectibilists", which was later known as the Illuminati. Some claim that this founding date is the origin for the date of the Communist May Day observance. He adopted the name of "Brother Spartacus" within the order. Though the Order was distinctly not egalitarian or democratic, its declared mission was the development of morality and virtue and the creation of an association of good men to oppose the progress of evil, by any means necessary. "Sin is only that which is hurtful, and if the profit is greater than the damage, it becomes a virtue," Weishaupt wrote: the ends justified the means. The actual character of the society was determined by its traditionalist enemies to be an elaborate network of spies and counter-spies, though with the high goal of ensuring virtue. Each isolated cell of initiates reported to a superior, whom they did not know, a party structure that was later effectively adopted by some later groups, including more recently by the early Ba'ath party in Syria and Iraq.

Weishaupt was initiated into Freemasonry Lodge "Theodor zum guten Rath", at MunichMunich ( German: Munchen ) is the state capital of the German Bundesland of Bavaria. Behind Berlin and Hamburg, Munich is Germany's third largest city with a population of about 1. 261 million ( as of 2003). It is located on the river Isar. History The se in 1777. He worked at first to divest Freemasonry of its pseudohistorical mumbo-jumbo and reform it. Weishaupt had no use for other occultisms in general: "It is by this scale that we must measure the mad and wicked explanations of the Rosycrucions, the exorcists and Cabalists. These are rejected by all good Masons, because incompatible with social happiness." His project of "illumination, enlightening the understanding by the sun of reason, which will dispel the clouds of superstition and of prejudice" was an unwelcome reform. Soon however he had developed gnostic mysteries of his own, with the goal of perfecting human nature through re-education to achieve a communal state of nature, freed of government and organized religion. He began working towards incorporating his system of Illuminism into that of Masonry, with the aim of spreading his ideals throughout the world. "I did not bring Deism into Bavaria," he wrote, "more than into Rome. I found it here, in great vigour, more abounding than in any of the neighboring Protestant States. I am proud to be known to the world as the founder of the Illuminati."

Weishaupt's radical rationalism, sweeping away nations and religions, private property and marriage, with the vocabulary used by the French Revolution, was not likely to appeal, even to an establishment more liberal than the Wittelsbachs'. Writings that were intercepted in 1784 were interpreted as seditious, the Society was banned by Bavaria's government in 1784, Weishaupt lost his position at the University of Ingolstadt and fled Bavaria. He received the assistance of Duke Ernest of Gotha, and lived in Gotha writing a series of works on Illuminism, including A Complete History of the Persecutions of the Illuminati in Bavaria ( 1785), A Picture of Illuminism ( 1786), An Apology for the Illuminati ( 1786), and An Improved System of Illuminism ( 1787). He died there in 1811, though his later career was so obscure that some sources place the year of his death at 1830.

A century after his death, occultist interest in Weishaupt and the Bavarian Illuminati picked up, through the writings of Aleister Crowley. Modern adepts trace the imagery of symbolism like the eye in the pyramid, and embrace the secrecy of the Illuminati traditions but ignore the specifics of Weishaupt's published essays and correspondence.

Socialist Connection to the Illuminati

Was Lenin a Freemason?

Whether Lenin was a freemason as early as in the 1890s is not yet possible to determine but he worked in the same way as subversive groups usually do. The Illuminati, the Grand Orient, B'nai B'rith (Sons of the Covenant), and other Masonic lodges were all interested in agitating the workers towards certain "useful" goals.

It is important to stress that Lenin and his henchmen did not work for a living. They could still afford to travel around Europe (then relatively more expensive than now) and live in luxury. These professional revolutionaries had only one task - to agitate the workers. Lenin's later activity shows clearly how he followed Adam Weishaupt's line.

Several sources reveal that Lenin became a freemason whilst abroad in 1908. One of these sources is a thorough investigation: Nikolai Svitkov's "About Freemasonry in Russian Exile", published in Paris in 1932. According to Svitkov, the most important freemasons from Russia were Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin, Leon Trotsky (Leiba Bronstein), Grigori Zinoviev (Gerson Radomyslsky), Leon Kamenev (actually Leiba Rosen-feld), Karl Radek (Tobiach Sobelsohn), Maxim Litvinov (Meyer Hennokh Wallakh), Yakov Sverdlov (Yankel-Aaron Solomon), L. Martov (Yuli Zederbaum), and Maxim Gorky (Alexei Peshkov), among others.

According to the Austrian political scientist Karl Steinhauser's "EG - die Super-UdSSR von morgen" / "The European Union - the Super Soviet Union (USSR) of Tomorrow" (Vienna, 1992, p. 192), Lenin belonged to the Masonic lodge Art et Travail (Art and Labour). The famous British politician Winston Churchill also confirmed that Lenin and Trotsky belonged to the circle of the Masonic and Illuminist conspirators. (Illustrated Sunday Herald, 8 February 1920.)

Lenin, Zinoviev, Radek and Sverdlov also belonged to B'nai B'rith. Researchers who are specialised in the activities of B'nai B'rith, including Schwartz-Bostunich, confirmed this infor-mation. (Viktor Ostretsov, "Freemasonry, Culture and Russian History", Moscow, 1999, pp. 582-583.)

Lenin was a freemason of the 31st degree (Grand Inspecteur Inquisiteur Commandeur) and a member of the lodge Art et Travail in Switzerland and France. (Oleg Platonov, "Russia's Crown of Thorns: The Secret History of Freemasonry", Moscow, 2000, part II, p. 417.)

When Lenin visited the headquarters of Grand Orient on rue Cadet in Paris, he signed the visitors' book. (Viktor Kuznetsov, "The Secret of the October Coup", St. Petersburg, 2001, p. 42.)

Together with Trotsky, Lenin took part in the International Masonic Conference in Copenhagen in 1910. (Franz Weissin, "Der Weg zum Sozialismus" / "The Road to Socialism", Munich, 1930, p. 9.) The socialisation of Europe was on the agenda.

Alexander Galpern, then secretary of the Masonic Supreme Council, confirmed in 1916 that there were Bolsheviks among the freemasons. I can further mention Nikolai Sukhanov (actually Himmer) and N. Sokolov. According to Galpern's testimony, the freemasons also gave Lenin financial aid to his revolutionary activity. This was certified by a known freemason, Grigori Aronson, in his article "Freemasons in Russian Politics", published in the Novoye Russkoye Slovo (New York, 8-12 October 1959). The historian Boris Nikolayevsky also mentioned this in his book "The Russian Freemasons and the Revolution" (Moscow, 1990).

In 1914, two Bolsheviks, Ivan Skvortsov-Stepanov and Grigori Petrovsky, contacted the freemason Alexander Konovalov for economic aid. The latter became a minister in the Provisional Government.

Radio Russia also spoke of Lenin's activities as a freemason on 12 August 1991.

Philosophy Of Religion Essential Role Of Christianity In Western Culture

Never mind the actual post, The 'Atheistic' Character of Christianity and the Question of Christ; the meat of Alastair Roberts' point is in his reply to my comment. (You'll have to scroll down a bit; I don't see any way of linking to individual comments on his blog.)Roberts seems to make two fundamental points. First, popular forms of Christianity are "heterodox" and "bizarre". His "bog-standard orthodox Christian tradition" is the "real" Christianity; to address other forms is to attack a straw man. Despite Roberts' effort to find common ground with atheism, Roberts seems to consider the fundamentalists so marginal that they are less of a problem than atheists themselves. Second, atheists seem to have forgotten that Christian ideas, the ideas of "his" sort of Christianity, are "part of the DNA of Western culture." By abandoning Christianity, atheists are losing a critical grounding for Western culture, without offering a satisfactory alternative. But Roberts is, I think, fundamentally missing the point of the modern atheist movement, which is primarily a struggle against fundamentalism.Roberts is aware of a wide range of atheist beliefs. He praises (or does he damn it with faint praise?) a strain of atheist thought that is relentlessly questioning and critical. But the modern atheist movement -- the New Atheists -- aren't really part of the deeper philosophical struggle against theism. Our primary targets are the fundamentalists, those who would use a view of God -- a view that I suspect Roberts would find "heterodox" -- to assert supernatural status to their petty hang-ups and small-minded prejudices. If Roberts' brand of Christianity does not share those hang-ups and prejudices, good for him; if the shoe doesn't fit, he is not obliged to wear it. If Roberts does not want to struggle against the fundamentalists, that's his choice, but we "do" want to struggle against the fundamentalists. When New Atheists attack the philosophical underpinnings of fundamentalism, we are not (at least not necessarily) attacking the underpinnings of Roberts own theology. That the New Atheists often seem unaware of his theology is primarily because his theology is not directly relevant to our struggle. But of course, the deeper philosophical critique against theism, which definitely does include Roberts' theology, is also important. But I think atheists expect a higher burden from Roberts than he would prefer. Roberts claims that Christianity is historically important, but atheists quickly grant that claim. From an historical argument, one can demand only that we include a considerable body of Christian thought in the canon of the humanities, and we do include that body of thought. (Whether we adequately "promote" that thought as something every educated person should be familiar with is a different argument, and atheists as a group do not have much standing to set the academic curriculum.) Yes, Christian thinkers, operating in various theological contexts, have made important contributions to Western values. Thanks, but what have you done for us "lately"? But Roberts is not making only an historical argument.Roberts appears to believe that not only is Christianity an important historical force, but that it is a philosophically essential component of the edifice of Western cultural values, values that atheists themselves endorse. To deny Christianity, Roberts' asserts, is to deny the philosophical underpinnings of our notions of rights, even our notions of skepticism and critical investigation. To assert those same rights and methodologies "without" Christianity -- the "right" sort of Christianity, of course -- is to work on borrowed ontological capital. Hopefully, he will develop this argument further. But this argument does not require that atheists have a deep understanding of any particular theology; atheists need only offer our own satisfactory grounding, without any gods or supernatural forces. (Of course, I doubt that we will ever satisfy Roberts himself, so we need only satisfy ourselves.) But this grounding is easy to provide. We can observe, and draw scientific conclusions from our observations, many characteristics and properties of human beings in general. We are beings that want to be happy, and we are "social" beings who have evolved and learned to be concerned with the happiness of others. We can also observe that trying to manage the happiness of large numbers of people is an extremely complicated task, too complex to optimize analytically. We can view all of our discourse on rights, freedoms, ethics, and justice as simply that: a dialectical conversation to address the burning question of how we can all be as happy as possible. We don't need any god to want to be happy, and we don't need any god to observe that we have evolved as a social species, concerned with the happiness of others. We're all very pleased that Roberts et al. have come to many of the same conclusions that secular humanists have come to, even if they express those conclusions in a theological rather than a naturalistic narrative. But we do not need to be deeply familiar with that theological narrative to address "either" of our goals. We do not need to address the humanistic theological account to address "nonhumanistic" religion. To the extent that we struggle against fundamentalism, we don't need to talk about non-fundamentalist theology. And we don't need to address any kind of theology to find that our Western values -- the good ones, at least -- can very easily rest on our biological and social natures.

Dr F Israel Regardie And The Golden Dawn

Dr F Israel Regardie And The Golden Dawn
The Regardie-Hyatt Interior bio on Dr. F Israel Regardie:

http://leilah.org/regardie.htm

Israel Regardie was untutored Francis Israel Regudy November 17, 1907 in London's East Sideways. His parents were Running Jewish immigrants who lived in an insolvent private grounds of London. As Universe War I erupted and engulfed Europe, Regardie's drab brother enlisted in the British Military, his name was by chance registered as "Regardie," more willingly of "Regudy" yet the family adopted the transform. In Imperial 1921, all the same Francis was 13, the Regardie family immigrated to the Joined States, settling in Washington, D.C. His specialism in the metaphysical and in the Dreamlike Schools stemmed from the literature his sister would bring home. His sister brought home books on astrology, meditation, diet mostly works by the Theosophical Strike. The Library of Association became Regardie's "zoom home." He capably recalled books that his sister brought home by Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Essential of the Theosophical Strike.

Regardie admitted Blavatsky was his "cover love" and led him to field the Dreamlike Schools with a renewal understanding. He enrolled in college and arduous Art in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. At the end of the day he befriended a Rabbi who became his Hebrew tutor, this linguistic education kindly assisted him in his consequent Hermetically sealed and Kabbalistic sacred studies. On 18 February, 1926 Francis handy for Sharing in the Washington Assistant professor of the Societas Rosicruciana in America. He acknowledged the 0=0 Neophyte initiation on 18 Sand, 1926 and advanced to the 1=10 Zelator Price 2 June, 1927. All through a revive one night with a lawyer, 20 year-old Regardie came across a book on Religion and Yoga Separate I} by Aleister Crowley. The book and its designer, peaked Regardie's specialism in Religion, leading him to write down to Crowley's publisher, a 13 year-old dialect in the book. His badge, by fluke or providence into 18 months consequent in the hands of Aleister Crowley.

At Crowley's draw, Regardie traveled to France in October 1928, anywhere he was employed as Crowley's secretary for four excitement. Crowley lectured Francis on yoga and mysticism, and magic. Just the once three excitement in France, Regardie had to pass on to London with Aleister due to scandals and Crowleys ill prominence. The French alteration had deported Aleister and his offices. In an proposal to refurbishment Crowley's diluted image, Regardie co-authored with P.R. Stephenson, the book called "The Legend of Aleister Crowley ". It was published in 1930, by which time they were unhurriedly vagrant to the left due to Aleister's megalomania.

In his initial 20s, Regardie was prior to versed in Hermeticism that's why at one value in his sponsorship under the plastic Crowley, Regardie acknowledged the IX^0 of the O.T.O. Francis seldom disclosed this to his students, to the same extent the point and obligations in the O.T.O. were insignificant to him. Francis in due course had a sinking out with Crowley, which was not forgiven until his consequent excitement. All through this sinking out, Crowley "revoked" the obligations of the IX^0 from Regardie. Regardie's forgiving and unsparing contour showed in his consequent work The Eye in the Triangle: An Notes of Aleister Crowley" Llewellyn Pub, 1970, which showed his maturity towards the kit.

Francis was furthermore employed as a secretary for the British designer and critic, Thomas Burke from 1932-1934. He published "A Quarter of Pomegranates" in 1932 with Aries Press; a bunch of his closet hard cash and experiences in working with the Kabbalistic Tree of Simulation. "Tree of Simulation" his along with work was published by Terms go on of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot} as well in 1932. It was on the twin bed of these works and their askew reviews that the books reached the Adepti of the Stella Matutina. Francis' peace with Crowley proved a hardship in any actions with Golden-haired Switch on organizations.

A undivided think of the Stella Matutina Adepti demanded Regardie never citation the Golden-haired Switch on in aspect again due to his existing peace with Crowley. The multinational of corporation with Crowley's antics in the Hermetically sealed Order of the Golden-haired Switch on his exclusion, and its separation from 1900-1903 missing a enduring bad sensitivity. Just the once 1903, the Hermetically sealed Order of the Golden-haired Switch on split inside manifest groups maximum much the Order of Alpha et Omega administered by Frater S'Rioghail Ma Dhream, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, and the Stella Matutina, operated by Dr. Robert W. Felkin, Frater Finem Respice.

E.J. Langford-Garstin, an Efficient of Mathers' Order of Alpha et Omega wrote Francis condemning him and requesting he bring to a standstill printing references to the Golden-haired Switch on. Others once, Dion Fortune, supported him and lauded his books in her published text in the Occult Instantaneous. The Adepti of the Stella Matutina remained fair, death no nerve on Regardie's wisdom and contour. One warning of the Order wrote to Soror Fortune, important her respect for Regardie's pains, a zoom Efficient wrote her, stating how unmindful her sentiments were. In what Francis consequent called, "a series of miracles that occurred in a shoddy, inadvertent way...", the two mail complete up in the inequity envelopes and the fates opened up for Regardie's initiation inside the Stella Matutina.

In 1933 Francis initiated inside the Hermes Crest of the Stella Matutina in Bristol. He progressed in a hurry express the exterior Order degrees, initiating inside the Theoricus Adeptus Inconsequential in 1934. Collected with Francis' studies in the Stella Matutina, the Order was prior to in a strong state of infighting, decay, and abeyance. Francis saw the lessons unintelligently altered by aberrant Adepti who had slight knowledge of execution magic, much less the lectures. Regardie, in his sharp be crazy about "My Rosicrucian Discovery," 1936 and a four put your name down for series of lessons entitled "Golden-haired Switch on" 1937 every by Aries Harass. "Golden-haired Switch on" was reprinted in a revised and improved copy in 1969, leading to his envisioned regeneration of muscular specialism in the Golden-haired Switch on path by new generations of magicians. Constant to the Joined States in last 1937 he entered Chiropractic Assistant professor in New York to study psychophysical heal. He arduous psychophysical heal under Dr. Nandor Fodor, as soon as studying treatment in London under Dr. E. Clegg and Dr. J.L. Bendit. Graduating in 1941, he served in the U.S. Military from 1942-1945 after the rash of quarrel with Japan.

In his so guide synthesizing of the Golden-haired Switch on experience with Reich's psychophysical heal, Regardie created a unusual synthesis of mysticism, occultism, and psychotherapy. His psychoanalytic training encompassed Freudian, Jungian and Reichian methodologies. In 1947 he encountered Reich, and became an active campaigner inside Reich's theories of Orgone energy. He published "The Interior Cooperation" {Aries Harass, 1938}, which provides step-by-step instructions on how to perform the practical drills of Golden-haired Dawn's execution magic. In "The Interior Cooperation" he as well compares these magical techniques to the hypotheses of treatment. He sought to remove the imitation defenses that had been erected relating magic and psychotherapy. He explored Christian mysticism and wrote about his data in The Romance of Metaphysics published in 1946 Aries Press. In 1947, Francis relocated to Los Angeles, California anywhere he set up a closet practice as a Chiropractor and Reichian therapist.

Seeing that earning a living express his closet Chiropractic control, Francis austerely selected students from his heritage of patients that paraded express his part. Covering the 1960s and 1970s, Francis qualified his synthesis of Golden-haired Switch on magic, mysticism, and psychotherapy to students such as: William Kennedy, Cris Monnastre, Larry Adam Forrest, and Alan Miller Ph.D. verbal skill under the pen name Christopher S. Hyatt. He as well wrote a compendium of literature with discrete publishing houses until Falcon Harass was created by Dr. Christopher S. In 1979, Francis began work on the "Lock Golden-haired Switch on Direction of Fabulous." This sharp proceed was completed realistic by his friend Carr P. Collins, Jr. who traveled magnify to Achieve Britain to interpret Gerald Yorke collections on Golden-haired Switch on history. Francis writes his mode verbal skill a new compendium of Golden-haired Switch on teaching:

"On studying this new set of papers I considerable to nail down that the Lock Golden-haired Switch on Direction of Fabulous" would be a much chief perfect photograph of the Order's teaching that the original hastily-put-together photograph was. On of the things that has endlessly rattled me is whatsoever obscurity. So long as this consider of knowledge bulk get your hands on up in one or chief whatsoever beings' dispute, it runs the woo of living thing lost to mankind eternally. It wishes to be put in book form to be spread all elder the world, so that if some type of cataclysm occurred someone, where would be worthy to rediscover this substance and gone chief make it open. So long as a few books can be found tucked out-of-the-way where, this knowledge cannot be lost....After that this form of occult knowledge, this particular conception of "living thing brought to the Skinny," would live for up-to-the-minute thousand excitement." Cross-examination Bearing in mind Israel Regardie " (c) Falcon Harass 1985}

Charles Cicero blessed Isis-Urania Crest of the Hermetically sealed Order of the Golden-haired Switch on(R) in Columbus, Georgia 1977. Just the once much dispatch, Francis traveled with Cris Monnastre in 1982 to Isis-Urania to untie her and one other particular inside the 5=6^0 Adeptus Inconsequential of the R.R. et A.C. Francis blessed the Fly of the Adepti at Isis-Urania, establishing the Tiny Order of the R.R. et A.C. ensuring close to 100 excitement after the institution of the original Golden-haired Switch on, the Skinny of initiation continued in America. In 1983 he visited New Zealand, anywhere a Stella Matutina strand had been founded by R. W. Felkin in 1912 and continued to responsibility. He set due initiation to the 6=5^0 Adeptus Crucial notch by Thoth-Hermes Crest headed by Pat and Chris Zalewski in Wellington, New Zealand. Just the once his death, Francis posthumously acknowledged the 7=4^0 Adeptus Exemptus R.R. et A.C. point by the Thoth-Hermes Crest in New Zealand.

In 1981, Francis retired from Chiropractics and stimulated from Los Angeles to Sedona, Arizona anywhere he train to write down. Falcon Harass published the "Lock Golden-haired Switch on Direction of Fabulous" in 1983. Sequence 1980-1982 Francis and Dr. Christopher S. Dr. Christopher S. Hyatt on Dr. Francis Israel Regardie it sparsely burial maintenance treatment from them.

Dr. Regardie never attempted to reliable the best to the vital for the sake of comedown. In this object neither of us supported the politically claim impact of uniformity. Our station has led to every of us living thing disliked by different occult groups-which includes maximum Crowley organizations. Let me make this value very keen...... Dr. Regardie was a Thelemite, everything of a Jeffersonian Democrat, or a Libertarian...... Until now, he realized that Thelema and maximum following groups behaved in the absolute undo of the morality and theories espoused by their founders. Although unfilled a high-ranking location in a think of organizations-including the OTO-he civilly refused. Keep in logic that, whilst Dr. Regardie was a chap publicly, illegally he can be significantly bad into the colorless and lame who headed and occupied maximum Occult groups.

Fabulous is the function to persist in telepathic or natural forces, by ritual, invention and other techniques, to conform to the choice of the worker. The plea "choice" in this context refers to the "power of desire." The persist in of telepathic forces can mean learning from "best quality powers" to conclusion the right buddy. Reliable population regard some forms of magic as either black or white. So they say this burial that black magic correlates with self-interest and harming others, all the same white magic relates to spiritual pursuits and allocation others. Fabulous, nevertheless, is magic, regardless of what ends one pursues or how you may well urge about the burial cast-off to build the end. Be level with science, magic poverty relax amoral-uninfluenced by any set of ideals block knowledge and domino effect......

In transcription, Regardie espoused the belief that, once science, magic was an endeavor practice...... the ritual either entire its ends or not......

Then again Regardie was a sympathetic and helpfully dignitary, he never regarded his typical morality from a honorable slant nor demanded that others soir once himself.

Dr. Regardie had very high ideals save for, once all of us, he often slipshod at realizing them... He was a strong protector of superiority and was embarrassed by what I now touchtone phone the new age dine......which has tainted and obfuscated magic and science express a neopuritanical ethic, eulogized express a kindly watered down Judeo/Christian/Islamic morality...... The ethic of the new age, which in my view is now blue, is a combination of regressive self-indulgence and self-hate......two programs of self-destruction whose time has come and gone. We are now moving inside a new era, neither finer nor junior than the one we are blossoming from...... This is not the supposed Aeon of Horus, but up-to-the-minute...... The Aeon of Horus has come and gone in an thing and, once all bring down influences, has missing overdue its vandalize. Subject: [Khatm-e-Nubuwwat] The Basic Goal of Itikaaf

To:

"

"IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST-MERCIFUL, THE ALL-COMPASSIONATE "MAY THE PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH BE UPON YOU"

"Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. "BISMILLAH WALHAMDULILLAH WAS SALAATU WAS SALAAM 'ALA RASULILLAH AS-SALAAM ALAIKUM WA-RAHMATULLAHI WA-BARAKATUHU The Basic Goal of Itikaaf - Why have Muslims Forsaken this Sunnah ?" Firstly:

Itikaaf is one of the confirmed Sunnahs which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did regularly.

This Sunnah has disappeared from the lives of the Muslims apart from those on whom Allaah has mercy. It is like many Sunnahs which the Muslims have virtually forsaken.

There are several reasons for this, including the following:

1- Weakness of faith in many hearts

2- Increased focus on worldly pleasures and desires, which leads to an inability to keep away from them even for a short time.

3- Lack on interest in Paradise on the part of many, and their inclination towards leisure and relaxation, so that they do not want to put up with the hardship of itikaaf even for the sake of earning Allaahs pleasure.

Whoever understands the significance of Paradise and the greatness of its delights will sacrifice his life and that which is most precious to him in order to attain it.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The reward of Allaah is precious, the reward of Allaah is Paradise." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani, 2450.

4- Many people pay lip-service to the love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), without acting upon it and implementing various aspects of the Sunnah, including itikaaf.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allaah and the Last Day, and remembers Allaah much"

[al-Ahzaab 33:21]

Ibn Katheer said (3/756):

This verse represents a major principle: that we should follow the example of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in word and deed in all situations.

Some of the salaf (early generations of Islam) found it odd that people did not observe itikaaf even the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) persisted in doing so.

Ibn Shihaab al-Zuhri said: It is strange that the Muslims have given up itikaaf when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not give it up from the time he entered Madeenah until Allaah took him (in death).

Secondly:

The itikaaf which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) always observed at the end of his life is itikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadaan. These few days may indeed be regarded as an intensive course of spiritual education which brings immediate positive results in a persons life during the days and nights of Ramadaan and in the coming days, until the next Ramadaan comes.

How great is the Muslims need to revive this Sunnah and establish it in the proper manner, as the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions used to observe it.

How great will be the success of those who adhere to the Sunnah after the ummah has neglected it and become corrupt.

Thirdly:

The basic goal of the Prophets itikaaf was to seek Laylat al-Qadr.

Muslim (1167) narrated that Abu Saeed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) observed itikaaf during the first ten days of Ramadaan, then he observed itikaaf during the middle ten days in a small tent at the door of which was a reed mat. He took the mat in his hand and lifted it. Then he put his head out and spoke to the people, and they came close to him.

He said: "I observed itikaaf during the first ten days seeking this night, then I observed itikaaf during the middle ten days. Then someone came and said to me that it is in the last ten days, so whoever among you wishes to observe itikaaf let him do so." So the people observed itikaaf with him.

This hadeeth teaches us a number of things:

1- That the basic goal of the itikaaf of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was to seek Laylat al-Qadr and to prepare to spend that night in worship. That is because of the great virtue of that night of which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allaah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months)" [al-Qadr 97:3].

2- The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) strove to seek that night before he was told when it is. So he started with the first ten days, then he observed it during the middle ten, then he continued to observe itikaaf during the last ten days, when he was told that it is in the last ten days. This is the utmost effort to seek Laylat al-Qadr.

3- The Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) followed the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), because they started itikaaf and continued with him until the end of the month, because they were so keen to follow his example.

4- The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was compassionate towards his companions and showed mercy to them, because he knew that itikaaf was difficult for them. So he gave them the choice between staying with him or of leaving, and said: "...so whoever among you wishes to observe itikaaf let him do so."

There are other aims of itikaaf as well, including the following:

1- Being alone with Allaah and cutting oneself off from people if possible, so that one may focus completely on Allaah.

2- Renewing oneself spiritual by focusing totally on Allaah.

3- Cutting oneself off completely in order to worship Allaah with prayer, duaa, dhikr and reading Quraan.

4- Protecting ones fast from everything that may affect it of whims and desires.

5- Reducing permissible worldly pleasures and refraining from many of them even though one is able to enjoy them.
