This Herescope series on the "New Breed" would not be complete without an examination of the rising science of biotechnology known as "transhumanism." This high-tech, bio-tech concept is working to create a physical "new breed" of man. There is a mystical component to it that comes from Hermeticism and Theosophy. This represents the ultimate mixture of science and religion.
There is every reason to believe that this new utopian science will have particular appeal to New Apostolic Reformation leaders who already teach and believe these mystical doctrines. There is every reason to fear that the Church today, which is rushing to contextualize itself within every perverse culture, will not stand against this rising tide.

CREATURES IN PURSUIT OF AUTONOMOUS PERFECTION

Medicine is no longer restricted to healing. Biotechnology's popular uses constitute a long list, among them weight loss, hair growth, birth control, teeth straightening, and sex selection of children. Transhumanism takes human enhancement further, in morphing the vision of perfect man into a human-machine complex properly called "posthuman." This is an effort to break every human limitation and redefine personhood. Nick Bostrom, Oxford philosophy professor and co-founder of the World Transhumanism Association, writes that posthumans will realize eternal youth and health, gain complete control over their minds and emotions, and "experience novel states of consciousness" that present human minds cannot imagine. Posthumans may even choose to discard their bodies in favor of life as "information patterns on vast super-fast computer networks." Though this sounds bizarre, human-mechanic existence has entered mainstream movies as a radical potential - and many scientist, doctors, and philosophers call it attainable within decades. As the President's Council on Bioethics writes, bioethics demands a current and public discussion of "what it means to be a human being and to be "active" as a human being."
Transhumanists distinguish the value of human life from biology and creation, to place its value in human ideals and experiences. As long as man's values guide him, this paradigm allows him to redefine all aspects of life. There is no attempt to retain "humanness" (that would be "bad"), but rather to be humane. In its Transhumanist Declaration, the World Transhumanism Association affirms "the feasibility of redesigning the human condition" in areas including "aging, limitations on human and artificial intellects, unchosen psychology, suffering, and our confinement to the planet earth." Technology joins education, culture, and politics as a tool for advancement. Asked whether transhumanism tampers with nature, Nick Bostrom replies: "Absolutely, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. It is often right to tamper with nature." The basic conditions required for posthumanity are global security to safeguard the explosive potential of transhumanism, technological process, and wide access to that technology. Transhumanism credits man with the potential to create an environment wherein he is perfected.
The actual work of transhumanism involves technologies such as brain-computer interfaces, neuropharmacology, and perhaps most notably, nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is a molecular science, whose other pursuits range from alternative energy to cancer cures. Since posthumanity requires futuristic nanotechnology, transhumanists advocate cryonics, or freezing of the human body, in the hope that posthumans will transform frozen humans into posthumans like themselves. Nick Bostrom argues that "even a 5% or 10% chance of success could make cryonics contracts a rational option for people who can afford it and who place a great value on their continued personal existence." In the same article, he also proposes ennobling "personality pills" and space colonization. Far from the isolated ideas of an Oxford don, anti-aging and intelligence enhancement are also pursued by the United States government's National Nanotechnology Initiative. Yet rather than confining itself to "simple" goals of healing cancer or even restoring sight, transhumanism posits that men are in an early stage of evolution, and pushes to enhance fundamentally humanity through nanotechnology and other sciences.
While creation of posthumans is based on human values, transhumanism allows room for posthuman values to differ from current ones. This is because values "come from minds."[10] Since a man's values are but the ones he chooses, posthumans may embrace values that current men do not. The Transhumanist Church credo states unequivocally:
"The memories we have, the thoughts we consider, the emotions we feel; these form the essence of who we are. For without these qualities we would cease to be us. And there need be no supernatural explanation for these qualities.... Our soul may arise from the structure of our brain, but it need not be reliant upon it."[11]
It continues: "We are our own saviors. We cannot rely on supernatural or external forces to guide us on our journey. Responsibility is on our shoulders to create the world we wish to live in."[12]
Despite transhumanist rejection of supernatural force, its philosophy mirrors mysticism. Mystics such as Hermeticists and Theosophists deliberately pursued self-transcendence. It was an ethical imperative and life's best aim, while success merely hinged upon proper technique and attitudes. Transhumanism and mysticism alike rely on human technique. Since transhumanism's stated goal is to transcend all limits, these philosophies must share their final goals: "either total union with the metaphysical One or total and perfect spiritual autonomy."[13] With remarkable consistency, transhumanism makes the implied mystical aspects of secular humanism explicit. Thus it becomes clear that humanism has always been a form of mysticism hiding behind a secular veneer.
Transhumanists are creatures in pursuit of autonomous perfection. While denying creation by any supernatural being, they freely claim their "ability and right" to "plan and choose their own lives."[14] This is a transhumanist ploy to deceive the unwary. Transhumanism is totalitarian to the core. Only to a small group of "posthuman scientists" (cultural and economic elitists) is "total freedom" granted. Their goal is clear: in order to dominate humankind they want to remake creation, including man, to suit their own purpose. C. S. Lewis's question bears asking. He wrote that "human nature will be the last part of Nature to surrender to Man. The battle will then be won.... But who, precisely, will have won it?"[15] Considering all the odds, it is rather doubtful, if transhumanism will finally succeed in its stated objectives to overcome human frailty and achieve paradise on earth. Despite tremendous advances in science and technology, most humans still suffer a cold during winter time. A brief glance at the obituaries will show that death is as grim a reaper as it always has been.
Utopians of all shades have, in the past, embraced pursuits similar to those found in Transhumanism and Gnosticism. As Jean B. Quant observes, "This secularization of the postmillennial tradition in the late 19th and early 20th centuries cut across the lines which divided theology and social science, clergymen and intellectuals."[16] As is the case with today's Transhumanists, technology plays a rather large role in helping to develop man's pursuit of utopian goals. Referring to the clergymen and intellectuals of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Quant states that, "Technological developments were particularly significant for hastening the arrival of the new era. Man's progress toward the kingdom [of God] had heretofore been slow because individual development and social solidarity always worked at cross-purposes."[17] Quant qualifies that not "all reformers who believed in some form of progress shared in the optimism of a religious or secularized postmillennialism."[18] Unlike the progressive ecclesiastics, these future-oriented Christians "did not belong to the mainstream of reform thought in the decades which surrounded the start of the 20th century."[19] Quant suggests that the "believers in a this-worldly utopia did belong to the mainstream. And these modern postmillennialists lent to reform thought much of its optimism, its perfectionism, and its faith in the ability of brotherhood, united to the modern scientific spirit, to conquer all the evils of the world."[20] Yet attempts to establish the perfect society is not only a futile attempt, but also contrary to God's eschatological plan, as revealed in Scripture.
To a certain extent, the Church has compromised on the issue of transhumanism. Most notably, a large number of Charismatics and Pentecostals have already adopted similar views and many more are being drawn to it. Mike Oppenheimer writes, "It is the new trend to think of the Church in a powerful way and this is not going away."[21] In fact, he continues, this "is fast becoming the norm for a Church already operating under a new (fresh) anointing."[22] Some of those Christians who do not fully embrace Transhumanism accept many of its philosophies and are drawn by its motivations, particularly by the possibility of a kingdom of God "in this world". They are being drawn to the Latter Rain movement, or the belief that Christians are Christ's "on-going incarnation in the world" who will bring forth a Kingdom of God on earth.[23] According to supporters of this movement, Christians will usher humanity into a new stage of its existence. Through individual Christians' labor, death will slowly be conquered until it is no more. Then, immortality will be achieved and Christ will return. According to Mike Oppenheimer, "the new focus is on an earthly inheritance for the church."[24]
Proponents of similar movements are called Dominionists (a distinct group of postmillennialists[25]). These people believe that Christians will continue to better the world until it is a kingdom of God on earth, as a result of human effort. Only at this time, they believe, will the Second Coming occur.
Why are Christians drawn to these movements? There are three reasons: 1) the belief that human cooperation helps in establishing God's kingdom, 2) the appeal of God's establishment of His kingdom through persuasion, and 3) encouragement and comfort for those in crises. James Moorhead writes that the "emphasis on human cooperation as an instrument of the Kingdom of God" appeals to many Protestants.[26] Christians like to think that they play a part in furthering Christ's redemptive work by effecting a good Christian society on earth. A sense of pride comes from the thought of the Church's role in quickening Christ's Second Coming. Also, many Christians are drawn to the belief that God will establish His kingdom through persuasion. To them, it would be offensive for God to subject a rational world by force. Moorhead sums this up: "Postmillennialism also guaranteed the rationality of the universe by asserting that God would win his dominion by persuasion."[27] Additionally, the belief of Christians helping to build God's kingdom on earth and bring about Christ's Second Coming comforts those facing troubles and encourages them to work toward this goal. In the history of the United States, postmillennialism has been revived during times of crisis for this very purpose.
Transhumanism calls for vigorous response from the church, though that response is currently lacking. The critical realization is that while transhumanism aims at posthuman perfection through technology, it misses the true nature of moral "perfection" (progressive sanctification) in its rebellion against God. The transformation Christians should be seeking is not the physical or psychological enhancement found in science, reason, or technology, but rather the transforming work found only in God's supernatural work through His Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). Romans 12:2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." This is the ultimate kind of transformation; and the only kind that can be truly attained with God's help in this world. The goal is the ultimate (post-judgment) attainment of perfect humanity in heaven, not the attainment of full technological perfection on earth, as a quasi divine being (Phil. 3:20-21).
Christians need to be aware of Transhumanism and its various forms, but they need not concern themselves with seeking something they cannot and should not attain - autonomous perfection in a utopian world society. Man's salvation is found only in the perfect and complete atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his promise of eternal life, as a free gift, to those who believe in him (Rom. 3:23-26; Eph. 2:8-9).

The Grip of NyarlaHotep instruction: As in the first degree's ceremony, the candidate is first given the knowledge lecture accompanied by a brief introduction to the initiation ritual, delivered by their "Guide" or first initiator, who subsequently does not particpate in the rite proper. The introduction lecture explains the origin of the rite in pre- historic antiquity, introduces the characters of the rite, and gives a brief synopsis of what occurs in the rite. Following this the Guide asks the candidate if they have any questions, and then the Guide leads the candidate into the vault. Guide: "You have chosen to pursue the mysteries of Imhotep, to learn about Atlantean masonry. But are you prepared to restore it? This is a solemn truth you must prove yourself: to enter paradise all one must do is choose not to bring about the ends of mischief and chaos. If you do not follow the urge to destroy yourself and be resurrected in a more perfect world, you would not exist at all, but we exist to build up, not tear down. You must work to restore the Atlantean tradition of fair justice and democratic ideals to reality. You must go out and tell all your friends to tell all their friends the right way to achieve transcendence, though this right way will be different for each of them. How then can we spread the word about the good work of restoring Atlantean Masonry? If we perfect ourselves, those who come to us will already understand, and want to know more, naturally. That is the subject of this ritual. In order to build the pyramids, our Order recounts, ImHotep recruited the black magician NyarlaHotep. NyarlaHotep then raised up workers from the dead. In this rite you will learn how to activate your naturally negative oriented chi, or quanta of karma, and make them "switch on" positively. Therefore, during this rite, you are asked to meditate upon the level plane by day and the completed pyramids by night. This is to remind you of the Underworld, where tomorrow is perpetually being built." inst: once the candidate confirms their understanding of this, the Guide escorts the candidate into the vault. The iia^0 ritual begins in the same position as the i^0 ritual, with the candidate lying face-up, flat down, in the middle of the floor of the pitch- black vault. Voice-Over: "Before the Beginning there was Nothing. A vast empty void there was not; nor was there a deep shadowy abyss; nor even a pitch-dark vaulted tomb. There was simply Nothing and that was all that existed. This was before time began. Nothingness filled all the highest heavens and flooded right up to the feet of God. It moved across His face. He breathed Nothingness in. Had it been like water, He might have drowned, but water had not been created yet. Instead it was Nothingness." inst: the lights in the vault begin to fade up slowly from the direction of the candidate's head, representing dawn. V.O.: "Then God uttered the uni-verse, or one sequence of letter vibrations. This word became the highest heavens, and God reached out his right and left arms through the heavens leaving hosts of angels in their wake. He reached out into the Nothingness below, and it became solid in His wake. From the Nothingness, God shaped, formed, molded and made our world Paradise. The Nothingness that God shaved, sculpted, carved and cast away "fell" and became material reality." inst: From the direction of the candidate's feet a large, shadowy object is moving as if it is alive. It resembles a very large octapus, however with an unidentifiable number of tentacles. V.O.: "We are told that when God first formed man, one of the angels of his making rebelled against God. This angel, who sat on the right hand side of God, was damned to "fall" with the negative matter. It is said many angels sided with this rebel, who also tempted Adam and Eve into exile from Paradise. In the digital world of "fallen" matter, some things appear to change, while others do not, things change at varied paces and all will change with greater rapidity until everything is utter chaos." "This is the key of Atlantean Masonry, may you remember it to the grave. This is the grip of NyarlaHotep: inst: the lights in the Vault suddenly all begin strobing at varied, irregular rates. The great, shadowy beast rushes up to the candidate with its tentacles reaching out to grab them. Suddenly a large yellow light representing the sun breaks across the black horizon in the direction of the candidate's head. The shadowy chaos beast lets out a blood-curdling wail and disappears in a sudden explosion of foul-smelling smoke. From the direction of the candidate's head a figure approaches, silhoutted in front of the rising sun. He is the source of the voice-over. V.O.: "If NyarlaHotep grips you hand, you will surely be a corpse, for to feel his grip is to touch the timeless Nothingness. NyarlaHotep was once a black-magician. He chose to "fall" into the temptations of the rebel angel. He turned away from the one true God and made blood sacrifice to the damned pantheons. He fell into an ecstacy and he entered the realm of the Underworld. In this state, NyarlaHotep discovered a terrifying secret. He learned the desert lands west of the Nile were lush and fertile once. It was reduced to silt by the world-flood. In the deepest dunes of this desert now rest the corpses of droawned Atlanteans. Then NyarlaHotep was shown the way to raise the dead from the desert. When he returned from the netherworld, the infinite zero of the Nothingness, he immediately repented and went to live in the desert. It is said by bedouins they have seen him squatting in the desert eating dust. The pact NyarlaHotep made with the dark lord rendered him a chaos-beast, ghost monster of nightmares." "It is to NyarlaHotep that I, ImHotep, vizier of the three kings, Cheops, Kherphren and Menkaure, go to make a pact with him: to give my soul to travel the Underworld in place of his own in exchange for him raising a quarrier's guild of dead slaves from the desert, all to be stamped with the sole goal of building three great tombs. It is I, ImHotep, who now awakens to dawn in the dune sea from dreaming slumbers of Nothingness, haunted by NyarlaHotep. He is near!" inst: from the direction of the candidate's feet a hooded figure approaches. In the brighter light of later dawn the candidate can better see the hooded NyarlaHotep. He is all swaddled in rags, so that his body and limbs are entirely concealed. The guaze wrapped around his skin is seeping blood. NyarlaHotep limps up. From the direction behind the candidate's head Imhotep draws into view as well. NyarlaHotep stands at the candidate's feet and ImHotep stands at the candidate's head. ImHotep: "Oh wise Nyarlahotep, I know that you can read my thoughts. I understand you know my intentions already. Nyarlahotep, understand my wisdom. Oh wise, NyarlaHotep, I call you now to labour and by doing so to serve the One True God." NyarlaHotep: "Oh foolish ImHotep, what future do you imagine you foresee? Where shall our names be carved on the Tombs for others we are to build. Who shall remember the workers once the work is done? Will you guide them back to heaven, once you have been sent to hell?" ImHotep: "I am called the scribe. Let me pass once through the Underworld now and then return to oversee building on the tombs. I will record all that I observe beyond death and leave it to my son PtaHotep; he will thus instruct the workers." NyarlaHotep: "I am called the Chaos Beast, and Dweller on the Thresh-hold. Do you think you can stand my awful judgment for me, under the scrutiny of the Most High's All-Seeing Eye itself, until the mortal ends of evil in the final judgment of the material reality? For to answer the Call of Chthulu you must answer now. To the twin-headed Satan and Maloch you must pledge to be forever indebted. You must become the chaos-beast that I, NyarlaHotep, now am." ImHotep: "Oh mighty master of your own fate, my destiny is in the hands of the righteous Most High as much now as forever. I will bear your burden, but I am judged only by the One True God. That is my right." NyarlaHotep: "Then you are duly and truly prepared?" ImHotep: "I am. Now NyarlaHotep, grip my hand to bind our pact." inst: ImHotep reaches out to NyarlaHotep, but NyarlaHotep extends a bandaged appendage to the candidate. NyarlaHotep: (to candidate) "know my grip as you shall know a man by his deeds." inst: NyarlaHotep siezes the candidate and drags them to their feet. As soon as the candidate is standing, NyarlaHotep vanishes through a concealed trap-door, leaving only his outermost robes behind. ImHotep steps up to these and parts them with his foot to reveal a bloody knot of tentacles surrounding a single, milky eye. Then ImHotep turns to the candidate and grabs their hand in his. ImHotep: (to candidate) "No more is NyarlaHotep the chaos-beast. Now I summon Osiris, his immortal soul, into this raised corpse. For your soul's name to live forever I shall write the book of "coming forth into day" and the book of "what is in the Am-Duat," the "way of the dead," the river styx. Though all the many dead you shall raise shall each be branded by your own unique soul, Osiris, sigil of your aura, they will all die only one death, your own, and then you shall be called the king of the Underworld and Lord of the Dead. The slaves and my seed shall follow in our names the same way through the afterlife, and we will become known as great gods, even alike YHVH and elohim, they will always remember Thoth, soul of ImHotep, and Osiris, soul of NyarlaHotep. Now is the dawn arisen on this first day of the resurrected dead. Let the Righteous Most High judge our deeds on this day without error and may His good mercy mark our names down for all time as his servants. You shall go forth to raise more dead now, but I must journey now into the timeless Nothingness of the Underworld." "Go now, Lord Osiris, soul of NyarlaHotep, reach into the desert sands, as God reached into the Nothingness, and raise the dead. By calling the bodies of the dead Anunnaki to return to the labour of Atlantean Masonry, you shall earn the restoration of your soul, and redeem this body which belonged to Satan himself. You shall give these all your soul, and my son PtaHotep will elevate them to Democracy. You go to restore Atlantis now, and I, ImHotep, shall journey through the Underworld. When I return, PtaHotep will show you my ways, and then you shall lead the workers through transcendence into Paradise. For now we part ways, Osiris resurrected Lord of the Dead. Our destinies are already set in stone in the highest heavens above, behind the skies. Go." inst: while Imhotep has been speaking, the candidate's initial initiator, the Guide, has been sneaking up on the candidate from behind. As ImHotep finishes speaking and turns his back to them, the Guide takes the candidate's arm and, turning them around abruptly, escorts them arm-in-arm from the vault. Guide: "So you see that it is because of ImHotep's pact with NyarlaHotep that workers were raised to restore Atlantean Masonry after the flood. This is symbolic of how each of us now must work to restore our own "fallen" souls. We therefore turn to studying the "tree of life," which is like a blueprint of our finished work. Our DNA is the gross matter of our work, and the alignment of the chakras the tool we use to work upon our DNA. By perfecting our work in this way we cleanse our aura and our soul transcends." "Therefore, we call the art of perfecting our craft, "raising the dead." This refers to the transformation of our exterior environment by aligning the chakras to cause our DNA to obey the will of our brains. When our chakras align through the study of the "tree of life," our external environment will be calm and serene, a still reflection of our internal composure, our DNA doing the wil of our brain through its control of our nervous system. This is how our spirits, when "called to labour," do "good" work to cleanse the chi karma in our aura: we "raise the dead" nerves usually unused in our brains to activate our "junk" DNA. This causes the DNA to transmit the will of the mind directly into the qliphothic quanta of our surrounding environment. The next time you visit London, walk from the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben along the Thames Embankment until you are next to the seventy foot long Cleopatra's Needle.

Nestling between the huge paws of the Sphinx is a stone tablet, called the "Dream Stela", placed there by Thutmose IV. The tablet tells the story of the younger son of Thutmose III who was hunting in the desert, and stopped to rest at the Sphinx, which was covered in sand up to its head. The prince fell asleep between the paws, and in his dream the Sphinx spoke to him, promising him the throne of Egypt if he would clear the sand covering it: The kingdom shall be given to you... The world shall be yours in its length and in its breadth, as far as the light of the eye of the lord of the universe shines... My countenance is gracious towards you, and my heart clings to you.Thutmose IV cleared the sand, became Pharaoh when his older brother - who was first in line for the throne - died before he could inherit it, and ruled for just under ten years.

The Percys have had a long history of intrigue and warring for centuries, fighting their own king as well as the Scots. A cousin of the earl of Percy played a part in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, commemorated on Guy Fawkes Day each year. In 1297 Braveheart - William Wallace - launched an unsuccessful attack on the castle.Alnwick, and Alnwick Castle itself, have links to ghosts.

Only one knight, says the writing, can lift this weighty slab, and his name is written on the other side of it. Lancelot flips over the slab and finds his name: Lancelot.Lancelot then took the Dolorous Guard as his home, changing it to Joyous Guard; on his death, he was buried there.Legend has it that Alnwick Castle is Joyous Guard, home and burial site of Lancelot.

"CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE GHOSTS:" But look around carefully when you ask the question and wait for an answer, for there are legends of ghosts at the obelisk. The London obelisk is called Cleopatra's Needle, even though she had nothing to do with it. The iron cylinder which carried the obelisk from Egypt to London, and was lost at sea for a while at the cost of the lives of six sailors, was named the Cleopatra by the engineer who moved it, John Dixon. Could it have been this association with Cleopatra's name that lead to the obelisk being called Cleopatra's Needle? Mythology is full of stories of the power of names: Ancient Egyptians associated the name with the soul. It was believed that knowledge of a god or spirit's name gave one complete power over that deity, and knowledge of a man's name provided the power to do that man good or ill. A person could not exist without his name. Perhaps this association with Cleopatra contributed to the legends about ghosts at the obelisk. Some say that a curse fell upon this obelisk when Cleopatra, then only thirty nine, committed suicide, clasping an asp to her chest after the death of her lover, Mark Antony. Her love affairs with both Caesar and Antony ended in tragedy, when both of them lost power.

When Otavian took Antony's will from the temple of the Vestal Virgins, where it had been stored for safekeeping, he found out that Antony had planned to move the capital from Rome to the magnificent city of Alexandria in Egypt, to be closer to Cleopatra, and to found a new dynasty there with her; Octavian published the will, and the Romans turned against Antony. Cleopatra persuaded Antony to commit suicide, which he did, falling upon his sword. When she tried to captivate Octavian, and failed, she realized that she would be paraded through the streets of Rome in chains, as part of Octavian's triumphal return to the capital city, so she chose death over such dishonor. She was found dead on a bed of gold, dressed in all her royal ornaments. Even today, there are more suicides near the obelisk than at any other point on the Thames River. There have been claims that strange, mocking laughter is heard nearby, and some have mentioned seeing a naked man rush up to the obelisk, leap upon its base, and then into the water, without any splash being heard.
