Today I choose MAWU from the deck of Goddess Guidance cards by Doreen Virtue:
"MESSAGE FROM MAWU: "There's no greater cause today than giving back to your mother; and rekindling a friendship with the soil, air, and water. The earth is the life force for material life, and there's no sense in continuing a downward spiral of dirtying the planet with further pollution. Your contribution is necessary, no matter how small. You make a huge difference in this planet's welfare through small and simple changes in how you operate. It's worth it, believe me, and I will help you accomplish this goal in all ways."
"MEANINGS OF THIS CARD: "Your life's purpose involves environmentalism * Use earth-friendly products * Recycle * Get involved with an environmental group * Teach others about environmentalism"
"ABOUT MAWU: "She's the West African moon goddess who's believed to have created all life, with her husband the sun god, Liza. Mawu helps those who call upon her to learn how to live in harmony with nature, and to respect its resources. She ensures that our needs are abundantly supplied without causing harm to the planet."
I chose Mawu today because she is also know as "Mother Earth" and Mother's Day is celebrated tomorrow. We all have mothers who birthed us or raised us, and mother figures in our lives, but Mother Earth is the creator of all life and therefore should be celebrated and embraced.
Those of us who consider ourselves witches base our spirituality around Mother Earth and all aspects of nature. We are the stewards of the earth which the goddess calls upon to teach and remind people that we must treat her with respect and live in harmony with her or we will lose her and all of life as we know it.
I pledge that from here on out to find and implement more ways into my life to be earth-friendly, to live in harmony with nature, to raise awareness how human are killing the planet, to teach people how to be earth-friendly, and to seek justice for Mother Earth for she is our Universal Mother.
If we all do even a small thing everyday, it matters! Do you take the pledge?
