My First Drum Circle

Hello again everyone.

First I'd like to say I've been enjoying writing down my experiences and seeing some comments being made. I really only post this for my own records because I don't trust a journal in my house at the moment, and I figured, why not post it online for like minded individuals? Right? Exactly.

Second, Merry Yule and bright blessings to you and yours. I believe I celebrated Yule about 3x this year... and this being my first year I would say I have a good understanding of how the ritual goes. All 3 were different and yet the same, which brings me closer to the understanding that spells, rituals, etc. can be different and have the same intent and therefore similar results. Kinda nice seeing that come together.

And third, my first drum circle. It was completely last minute when my friend had asked me if I would like to join and I agreed to. I woke up with a huge headache that day, she says I was hung over but eh, to each there own. That headache would not go away! I took aspirin, ate greasyish food, drank tons of water, nothing. Thought I was going to be sluggish and in pain for this event, but I wanted to go and thus I was willing to deal with it. Upon arriving to the studio there was a nice little shop my friend wanted to go in and thus we went inside. I found an altar broom in the clearance section for 7 and I believe the original price on it was 30. I also found 4 black mini candles for 1. Again sold.

After that spree, we went to the studio and I was as always nervous. I get shy around people I don't know and kind of cling to the person I do know. I am a total kid ha. Anyway, so they happened to come into a break and we ate, socialized, etc. Then it started up again. At first I was playing my friend's tri bell instrument and was just adding in to what I thought could be a good backup instrument to the drums. After a while I got bored of it, even though I liked it, and the runner of the operation let me use one of his various drums that he hand makes. It was awesome. I got really into it after that and just let music bring me peace. It made me relaxed and I didn't even notice my head hurting anymore. Between the bells and the drums, it was gone and it didn't come back. After some time there was another Yule ceremony with an actual log and three candles lit, one for the God, one for the Goddess, and one for death/rebirth. Then the drum playing continued.

This went on for a few more hours but after a while I was getting exhausted. I guess putting all my energy into playing took its course after a while but it was nice to bond with people I don't know and to just relax, especially after organizing ads at my job for the holiday rush for a few weeks. Weekends are never long enough.

What The Temple Means

Now that Romney is just about to be elected president, several anti-Mormon videos are sweeping the internets. Among them are likely videos that reveal what happens in our most sacred temple ordinances. Feel free to watch them. Understand the level of dishonesty that was required to obtain them, however. Someone must have been a member of the church in good standing for at least a year. They must have made sacred covenants with God to keep his commandments. They must have lied to several people about their intentions. They must have violated basic rules to not film or reveal key portions of the ceremony. Finally, during the ceremony, they swore an oath to God that they would not reveal certain tokens or signs. And yet, here we are. If you want to trust such a person to accurately portray mormonism, then you are free to do so. However, to me, such a dishonest person has no reason to be trusted at all. Why would anyone trust someone who takes oaths before God so lightly, or who is willing to deceive so many people? Regardless, I am going to share with you the "gory" details about what goes on in Mormon temples. I feel now is just as an appropriate time as any. To put things in perspective, you have to understand how Mormons view the universe. First, there is a God. He is our loving Father in Heaven. His primary purpose is to prepare us to receive eternal life. Nothing is more important for him. He provided for us a Savior, Jesus Christ. Under the direction of Jesus Christ, the world was created, and man was place on it. Adam and Eve ate the fruit, and brought sin and death into the world. However, this was anticipated from the beginning. The very purpose of life is to experience sin and death in this mortal realm. Having experienced that, we are to repent and obey Jesus Christ, who will show us how to get out of the mess we have created for ourselves. Our obedience to Jesus Christ is that we sacrifice ourselves to show love to each other. It is that we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, tend to the sick, and help the sinner and comfort those who stand in need of comfort. This is pretty much the entirety of what we are asked to do, in addition to inward actions such as trusting Jesus and repenting of our sins. As tokens or signs of our willingness to follow Jesus, we accept the ordinance of baptism. This symbolically washes us from our sins, and symbolically represents a rebirth in God's kingdom. Then we receive the ordinance of the laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost can be our constant companion, helping us know what we should do to follow Jesus's example on the earth. These are two saving ordinances, meaning, we cannot return to Heavenly Father without receiving them. The problem is that so many people lived on earth but never received baptism. It is to bring people to Christ, to help them experience the joy and lasting happiness that only Christ can bring us. I do not see any evil here. Add 4 tsps of sugar, and 4 tbsp of milk.

Put it in the freezer just until it has become slushy.

Serve it with chocolate sprinkles, a chocolate wafer, or even a sprig of mint if you want more mint taste.

SCOTTISH SCONES

Scottish Scones Ingredients:

1 3/4 c flour

1/2 tsp salt

2 1/2 tsp baking soda

3 or 4 tsp sugar-to taste

1/4 c of milk

1/2 tsp cream of tartar

1/4 c butter

1 tsp molasses

1/2 tsp each cinnamon and ginger and nutmeg and cloves

1/2 cup any chopped fruit, such as raisins, strawberries, blueberries, or nuts. (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F. Mix the flour, sugar, cream of tartar and cinnamom, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves together. Mix in the butter with a fork. Mix the milk with the molasses. Stir in enough of the milk and molasses mix to the flour mix so that the dough will lift away from the side of the bowl. Knead a dozen times on a floured board. Roll to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick, and cut into a dozen. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for about 10-15 minutes or until golden.

6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

1 lb powdered sugar

6 tbsp evaporated milk--kept at room temperature! this is important!

1 tsp vanilla

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 c butter ( soft)

1 c of any filling you want to put in.

This is optional. I usually make one batch plain, and one or more batches with my choice of fillings, like peanut butter, nuts, caramel, junior mints, etc....be creative...

Melt chocolate pieces in double boiler over hot water nnot boiling! The reason for all this room temperature stuff, and not boiling, is because the fudge is hard to mix due to it's stiffness, and my mother found that it is easier to mix when everything is nice and temperate.). Combine in mixing bowl the powdered sugar, evaporated milk, vanilla and salt. Stir until smooth. Add melted chocolate, stir until blended. Add the butter. Then mix in any fillings you want. Spread into a buttered 8 inch square pan, and chill. When cold, cut into pieces and enjoy!

time 10-15 minutes or until golden.

Cherry O'Cream Pie Ingredients:

I can of cherry pie filling

1 8 oz package of cream cheese--dont use low fat, it makes it runny.

I can of Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

1/3 c of lemon juice

1 tsp vanilla

one 9 inch graham cracker crust, half baked.

Allow cream cheese to get to room temperature, make sure other ingredients are also room temp. Mix cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon, and vanilla until creamy, and pour into pie crust. Chill in the refrigerator over night, or at the very least, two hours. Top with cherry pie filling. Eat your heart out!
