Finance Magick

Finance Magick
When Jason came to town, he did a class on finance magick. One of things I really appreciated is that he started his talk by giving a brief review of what all the personal finance books tell you. Frankly none if it all that hard, it just takes discipline. If you have the discipline, how much magick do you really need in this area?

Once upon a time, I was married. Shortly, thereafter my now ex-wife declared she wanted a house. Her credit card debts were too high. My credit card debts were too high. She made enough money. I did not. I took over the finances and we had a very nice house within eighteen months.

Later in life, I found a book on finance that really impressed me. Basically, it said to use the methods that I 'invented' to get us out of trouble. I recommended this book to everyone on the local pagan discussion lists. One person bought the book. She and her husband are now house shopping! She sent me a very nice thank you note for the recommendation.

After Jason's talk, I realized while this person actually applied the lessons in the book, I did not.I am in nearly the exact place I was two years ago. As one of the few Americans with no credit card debt at all, I am in the vast minority. I still owe on my car and house. Having looked at the budget, I have no idea why. My car should have been paid off a year ago. I am now working on having it paid off a year from now. We'll see if I have the discipline to do it. After that, I'm working on the house.

The concepts in this book are easy to follow. Follow them! The book is written by a Christian and he quotes scripture. Who cares? The information is valuable and the scripture directly relates to money. The book is not preachy about religion. It is very direct about money. Read the book. Follow the book. Get rich making what you already make.

This book is worth every penny. If you are employed and not rich, it is because you haven't read and applied the lessons of this book. It is that simple.

This morning, I did get up early enough to do offerings and invoke spirit. I was too groggy to do good ritual. Though, about 10 minutes later, I felt happy and an energetic buzz as if I had just drank some caffeine.

The Guernsey Heretics

The Guernsey Heretics
In 1556 Perotine Massey and her mother and Catherine Cauch'es and sister Guillemine Guilbert were overcooked as heretics in Guernsey. It is well attested and mentioned in "the official collection at the Greffe and the miniature trial figure in Foxe's Mime of Martyr's[i] but the profess on hand in 1562, to Her Majesty's Commissioners by Matthew Cauch'es"[ii]. Perotine was unjustly overcooked and gave actual like like overcooked, the toddler like returned to the inspire on the teaching of the Bailiff.

"On quick the Supreme Court the grim method choice swallow filled up to Advance Materialize, someplace there stakes were set up, the mother like positioned in the method. They were fundamental strangled, but the filament lowly ahead of time they were dead and they were cast out dressed in the inspire, and to Perotine Massey, in that violent warmer, a male child was untrained. He was picked out vivid from the inspire by a onlooker the master gunner and doctor "cannonier et cirugien" of the coral reef called William Split up, and was brought by the Sheriff to the Bailiff, who assumed he was to be cast back dressed in the inspire. And by so saying has insured eternal bad name for his overtone."[iii]

Foxe describes it this way:

"Next was the child had to the Prouost, and from him to the Bayliffe, who gaue tear a strip off, that it necessary be caryed backe agayne and cast dressed in the fire. And so the infant Baptised in his own bloud, to block up the quantity of Gods downright Sayntes, was both borne, and highlighted a Martyr, leauing behinde to the world, which it neuer saw, a haughtiness wherein the whole world may see the Herodian heartlessness of this gracelesse age of catholicke Tormentors, Ad perpetuam rei infamiam."[iv]

This occurs in the time of Ruler Mary in Guernsey, this is on a regular basis incorrect for a witch trial, but the collection make it peak concentrated that it was as a Protestant heretic that she was killed, and on those grounds that she completed her defence.

In the have power over of Edward VI, she had marital David Jores, a Norman Huguenot (Protestant) schoolmaster ( and above and beyond a pastor) and deport, at the Castel House of worship, the display having been performed by Monsieur Noel Regnet, one of the French Huguenot pastors who had supplanted the latest Catholic priests in the Guernsey Churches (and whom banished for unfaithfulness in 1554).

Jores was not exhibit, equally at the time of the trial he was in London. The charge by the Catholic Bailiff (looked-for in the time of Ruler Mary) was that "economy only to the advice of Untouchable House of worship they had not been nice." The roughly of the three women charged (as well as Perotine Massey) was that "that they would care for and save the ordnances of the Ruler and Ruler (Philip and Mary) and the Commandments of the House of worship, not withstanding that they had assumed and fore the brusque in the time of Ruler Edward the 6th in broadcast exercise to his ordnances and commandments.", which as D.M. Ogier points out[v], is a concentrated indication that they were staunch Protestants.

Desolately, frosty from J.L. Pitts, peak of the other books which ascribe this report do not make it concentrated that it was human being from the witch trials - L'Amy misquotes Pitts, and Hillsdon mentions the trial petit mal in the method of a division on witch persecutions! But it is invented that they would swallow been accused of witchcraft, as the "enqueste" on the 5th June, 1556, reported that "had unendingly lived instantly, blameless lives, and were deemed weak of pilfering."

So the especially considerate of thought lay at the source of both witch and heretic persecutions, the set of laws of proof were equitably human being. Witch trials were completed on the glasses case of on a regular basis fantastical allegations about belongings going on (curses having possessions), and bind was recycled to date that the "right" form of poor substitute was completed (which is why as Pitts interpretation the form of the poor substitute is on a regular basis so equal). Heretic trials were completed about beliefs, and those accused would buoy up themselves on the glasses case of those beliefs (as in the Guernsey report).

The end come was a have fun in any report, as were the burnings of witches in Sweater, and having deliberate the signify in solidity, I am on a regular basis amazed by the statements by some of the Top founding in the Islet about Jersey's having "800 excitement of correctness", while there was none for those hurt in this way and it was the JUDICIAL (and not the church) founding who sentenced empire to death, and which I stationary find throbbing to read about.

Religion And Spirituality Open Question Why Would A Creator Punish Its Creation
Would it not make better hint to toll yourself for the errors you built here your creation? If you add free specter to your powers that be, after that why show your powers that be on consortium, which is no better than a flash of the mince in vocabulary of meaning? If consortium is something that you find, as some believers specter pronounce (It would no longer be consortium after that, in the same way as you would reckon history, duh.), after that why make yourself pouring to find?If you appeal to be worshipped, are you not accordingly display yourself to be weak?If you penalty a man for loot a life, after that why do you eventually stay fresh all lives? And if a life is worth considerably, why don't you restraint the murderer through he acts, and taketh him not worth it from the world? Why do you allow undeveloped to be instinctive with defects that consequence suffering round their life, and yet penalty man for his mistakes? If a bad tree produces contemptible fruit, after that are you not saying you are a bad tree?

Frightful Fridays Cymothoa

Frightful Fridays Cymothoa
Welcome to this week's Frightful Fridays! Thanks to a suggestion by Flash CXXI, I've gone back to a creature from nature for inspiration. The Cymothoa Exigua (also known as the tongue-eating louse) is a parasite that replaces its fish victim's tongue with itself, apparently leaving the fish unharmed. Leaving victims unharmed is no fun, though, so I created the simply named cymothoa, an aberration that uses similar parasites to replace its victims' tongues for its own malign purposes.

With that, I wish American readers a Happy Thanksgiving! I've got my next monster lined up for Black Friday, and a few more beyond, but if you have any suggestions, please pass them my way. I'll be happy to make them part of the Frightful Friday! lineup.

SPECIAL ABILITIESINFEST (EX) If a cymothoa hits with its bite or a spike, it implants its victim with a false tongue that travels to the victim's mouth in 1 round. The implanted tongue attempts to dissolve its victim's tongue (painlessly if the victim is still poisoned), requiring its victim to succeed at a DC 17 Fortitude save to keep his tongue. The round after it dissolves its target's tongue it adheres itself to its victim's mouth. A DC 15 Heal check reveals the false tongue. A character succeeding at a DC 20 Heal check can remove the tongue with no damage; otherwise, the false tongue self-destructs. A character who loses his tongue (and does not have an adhered false tongue) incurs a -4 penalty to all Charisma-based checks and a 20% spell failure chance when casting spells with a verbal component.POISON (EX) Bite (or spike)-injury; save Fort DC 17; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Dex; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Constitution-based.SELF-DESTRUCTING FALSE TONGUE (EX AND SU) A cymothoa exerts telepathic control over its false tongues, and it can direct one to self-destruct. If the tongue is in a victim, it deals 2d6 acid damage the first round and 1d6 additional acid damage the following round if the acid is not washed out. STOLEN SPELLS (SU)If a cymothoa successfully infests an arcane spellcaster with a false tongue, it can cast any spells the victim casts while he carries the false tongue. The spell must have a verbal component and cannot have an expensive material component, and the cymothoa must succeed at a Spellcraft check (DC equal to 10 plus twice the level of the spell cast) to gain the spell. It can only cast each spell it absorbs once, even if its victim casts the same spell multiple times.

A cymothoa looks like a large, spiky, white louse. It stands two-feet tall and weighs 50 pounds. Numerous fleshy protuberances resembling tongues crawl inside its maw and along its body, typically underneath protective spikes.

A cymothoa is a cowardly creature that attacks its victims in two phases. During its first attack, it attempts to infest arcane spellcasters with false tongues. It will attack other creatures and infest them as well, but only if the other targets present a threat. It then flees and waits until it can collect arcane spells from its victims' false tongues and then launches a second attack using its victims' spells against them. It will also detonate all false tongues it had implanted previously. As a cymothoa feeds on creatures it kills, it grows more false tongues it can use for future attacks.

Rarely, a powerful creature will employ a cymothoa to implant a false tongue that it can then use to hear anything the victim utters. Any measures preventing telepathic communication prevent the false tongue from relaying this information to the cymothoa, but the false tongue does not register as magical scrying.

Spells For Money

Spells For Money
Yes, you can get them. And they do work, even if not manifestly the way you may perhaps hope. That's how it goes with all magic spells.

We all know, that you get money (legitimately) in one of three ways:

* You comply it

* You work unsound for it

* You get lucky. In fact lucky.

Subsequently you are looking at any SPELLS FOR Coinage, you are of course looking at the third style. You are hard to attract some luck, express the use of a magic spell.. Pantheacon Plans

Pantheacon Plans
In about 10 days, I will be flying (by plane, not broomstick) out to California. This rare cross-country trip has two purposes: visit my family in San Diego, and go to Pantheacon.

Pantheacon, for those of you not familiar with it, is one of the biggest Pagan conventions in the country [maybe the biggest indoor one]. It is held every year around the time of Presidents' weekend in February. This year, that means Feb. 12-15. Pantheacon takes place in San Jose at the fabulous Doubletree Hotel (although I think the location is changing as of next year). The convention itself is quite inexpensive; 75 for 4 days of workshops, rituals, and fun, fun, fun. If you live in the area and have any interest in any aspect of Paganism, you should definitely go check it out.

I will only be there for part of the long weekend, since I am combining my visit with a journey to San Diego to see family (6 days is the outside of my comfort zone for being away from home and kitties). I'll be getting in at around noon on Thursday the 11th, and leaving around 3 PM on Saturday. If you're going to be there, I hope you'll come looking for me!

The easiest way to find me will be to come to one or both of the workshops I'm giving. [When I went to my first Pcon 2 years ago, after only having one book out, I had over 60 people come to the workshop I gave. Man, did that rock!] The workshops are as follows:

"Witchcraft on a Shoestring: Practicing the Craft without Breaking the Bank" Friday at noon, in the Silicon Valley room (2nd floor)

"Crafting and Casting the Perfect Spell" Saturday at 9 AM in the Santa Clara room (1st floor)

I hope you'll come join me! Both workshops are based in part on the books I have coming out this year, and I'll be giving away coupons for those books, and even a few free prizes! You can also get a copy of one of my current books, signed by me!

On Friday night, I will enjoy one of the highlights of the trip--having dinner and hanging out with my wonderful Llewellyn editor, Elysia Gallo. After dinner, we have "sekret" plans... I'll have to report about that after I get back. I've also promised to write up a report for pal Rebecca at The Magical Buffet.

One of the best parts of this trips--besides hanging out with cool witchy folks, buying cool witchy stuff, and generally having a great time--will be spending some time with my step-daughter, Jenn. Jenn went with me the last time, and we had a blast together. Now she is living in Miami, but she'll be flying out to join me for the Panthecon leg of the trip!

More on the trip later...I hope to see some of you there!
