Last Wednesday, after breakfast, Lucas decided that he would make a new potion. Sometimes he wakes up all witchy, and it's fun to see him dealing so naturally with his spiritual path on our daily routine. He really enjoys being a little witch.
So he asked me which kind of potion he could make, and I suggested a health potion - one that is always welcome, after all. So there he went researching and taking my herbs to mix them with our mortar and pestle. He took sage, calendula, lavender, clove and St. John's Wort.
After mixing them well, he put them into his potion bottle, shaking it hard to create a thin layer of foam - a must, according to him, (but I think he simply loves doing it for the fun of it...)
Then he placed the bottle outside under the morning sun to absorb its energy to our little health ritual that evening. In the afternoon, when he was back from school, he grabbed it and took it inside to filter the herbs and finally pour the potion into the new vial he got from his cousin. It's now resting on his altar, on his favorite Voodude's lap. ;o)
That morning, I posted at my FB page his photo mixing the herbs, and some friends asked me to add their names or friends/relatives' names in our ritual, so I took note of all of them, adding my family's too, and in the evening, after lighting a white candle, and Lucas opening the circle, I folded the paper and placed it into my cauldron, dropping some potion over it, along with a generous pinch of the herbs that I have filtered and dried in the microwave, saving them for healing spells. We said a little prayer to the gods, asking them to protect and heal those who needed to be healed, and I burned the paper, letting the names become ashes and smoke and good wishes. So mote it be, we said.
The following morning, I buried the ashes and the remains of the candle wax in my flower bed (that soon will have no space left to bury all my things!).
I love this good feeling after performing our simple rituals, a sense of connection, the satisfaction of sharing something so special and vital for me with my son. In the future, when he reaches that age of questioning even more life and everything else, he'll probably start looking for other paths - I encourage him to learn about all religions and I answer all his questions about them with an open heart, not showing prejudice (that I don't feel anyway, except against bigotry itself) and making sure he knows it'll be okay if he ends up choosing another spiritual path for his life (I joke saying that I'll only disinherit him if he does so, but that this is only a tiny detail, lol). What I mean is that, no matter his choices in the future, he'll have a very solid background of respect, knowledge and love for both worlds around him, in all senses, so I know he'll be wise and I'll be proud of him.

As I meet each week with women seeking help for the problems they face in life I am consistently surprised at the number who think and expect that I have something magical to offer them. The belief is that there is some special pixie dust or wand that I wave over them and suddenly the problems are solved and life is fixed.
The reality is I have no black hat, no new magic or spectacular chant that will relieve their sorrow or troubles. What I "do have" is the Word of God that contains life and hope and the promise for lasting change.
But there is "no" instant solution! What brings a person to the point of wanting or needing counseling/discipleship did often not materialize overnight, nor will the issues resolve overnight! What I am speaking of when I disciple/counsel biblically is the need for heart level change. It is the same for those who struggle with food issues. Too fat, too thin, too much too little it all begins in the heart.
Many who persist with dis-ordered eating believe that for the favor of God to rest upon them they must "be good" or not participate in their sinful eating habits. This places the grace of God in the realm of a payment to us, and that clearly cannot be! "Grace" by its very definition is unmerited favor, and this means that I cannot earn it by being "good." Besides, there is no way any of us could ever be good enough anyway to earn God's favor since the standard is sinless perfection.
But sadly I have meet with women who truly believe that if they could just control their food intake that God would be pleased with them.
God is already pleased with every Believer (Regenerated Christian) because of Christ! Because that abiding relationship with Christ never changes, God's love and acceptance of us never changes either.
When you binge, purge or starve yourself you are most certainly sinning, and God does hate that sin- but God will never hate you or turn you away; you are one of His children. You will reap consequences for your sin with eating just like you do for any other sin, and that is proof of your sonship (Hebrews 12:11). Each one of the eating disorders we looked at in the past week carries its own inherent demerits, natural and unpleasant consequences that God by His grace brings and allows to change us.
Some of those consequences are found in the unwanted weight gain of the over eater. This puts stress on the body's frame and organs that it is not designed to take. Purging reverses the natural manner of digestion and the acids intended to break down the food are brought up the esophagus and burn it, and the throat and the acids eat away at the enamel of the teeth. Purging also deprives the body of essential vitamins and minerals. Starving yourself withholds all basic nutrition from your body causing it to steal nutrients from your muscles, including your heart. Exercising excessively while withholding food is a double insult to the body and can lead to heart failure and a host of other medical problems.
The dis-ordered eater has at their core the same issues that the rest of us "ordinary sinners" do. Some try and describe it as a compulsion and looking at the biblical definition of a compulsion I would agree!
Compulsion: desire, strong habitual desires that are carried out without thought, sometimes neglecting the love of God or others.
Desire: a desire, craving, or longing, mostly of evil desires, frequently translated lust.
Scripture instructs us to put aside lust.

Each stone has its own energy, attributes, and uses. But in the following divinatory practices I have chosen to focus on color as an easy way to connect with the stone's energies. We use color during ritual in order to resonate with those energies we are tapping into, thus using colored stones in divination is one way of receiving hints about the future.
Divination comes from the root word 'divine', which has to do with the Deity. When we utilize forms of divination we are attempting to connect with the Divine Mind in order to receive clarity or guidance about a matter. There are, of course, other ways to do this. One may consult a book, talk with a friend or trained counselor, or in other ways work out the answer to a problem. But if you think that using divination may be of some assistance, the following divinatory casts may be of use. Remember though that the future is not "cast in stone," and that you may always exercise your free will in any matter.
Following is a list of stones and their symbolism. If the colors and their attributes do not fit for you, please feel free to alter them to your needs. Likewise, if I have not mentioned a stone you feel particularly comfortable working with, add it to the list under the appropriate color selection.

THIRTEEN STONE CAST
For this cast place all of the stones in a pouch used for the purpose. Hold the pouch while thinking of your question. An example might be, "What do I need to do in order to get the job I want?" Reach into the pouch without looking and draw forth a stone. Place it in front of you. If the answer makes sense to you, stop there; if not, reach in and draw forth another stone. If you are still not sure of the answer, draw a third stone. This will bind the first two. The answers combined will be the answer you seek.
YES/NO CAST
This is used when all you need is a "yes" or "no" answer. While thinking of your question, reach into the pouch and stir the stones around. When you feel the time is right, LIGHTLY clasp a collection of stones and draw them forth from the pouch. If the number of stones are even, the answer is "yes"; if odd, the answer is "no".
A variation of this is to take a piece of felt and draw a circle on it. Divide the circle in half. On one side write "yes", on the other, write "no". Mark an "x" in the very center of the circle. Hold the pouch while thinking of your question, and when you feel the time is right, tip the bag over the felt circle, making sure to do so over the center point. Then count the number of stones on each side, discarding those sitting on the dividing line or falling outside of the circle. The side with the most stones will be your answer.
SACRED CIRCLE CAST
This is used when you need to know how your past and present will affect a future outcome. Hold the pouch of stones as you ask your question. Next, remove all of the stones from your pouch, one at a time, and place then in a circle (you may use the cirle drawn on your felt piece as a guide). Locate the "top" of the circle (the 12:00 position on a clock face). Keeping your question in mind and moving clockwise, pull each fourth stone out of the cirle and place it before you, from left to right. Do this until you have three stones in front of you. The leftmost stone is your recent past with regards to the question; the middle stone is the present; and the rightmost stone is the possible future. Read them all together to find your answer.
ELEMENTAL CIRCLE CAST
This is used when you need balance and want to incorporate the wisdom of the elementals into your answer. Place all of the stones in your pouch. As you hold the pouch, think about your question. When ready, reach in and remove one stone. Place this in front of you in the 3:00 position (you may use the circle drawn on your felt piece for a guide). This is the stone for the element of the east, which is air and is concerned with your thoughts and intuition about the matter. Reach in the pouch and remove another stone. This will be placed in the 6:00 position and is the stone for the element of the south, which is fire. This stone is concerned with your will and actions.Now remove a third stone and place it in the 9:00 position. This is the stone for the element of the west, which is water, and is concerned with your emotions and feelings about the matter. Draw out a fourth stone and place it at the 12:00 position. This is the stone for the element of north, which is earth, and is concerned with manifesting results. Finally, draw out a fifth stone and place it in the center. This is the stone for spirit, which is everywhere. It is concerned with transformation and change, and of the Divine Mind.
